First Time Using Spool Gun.

First time spool gun welding aluminum. It was like using a squeeze bottle of oleo. Good looking welds. I weld 4043 stick and its hard finding that sweet spot in amps. Mig welding aluminum is the way to go in my opinion for us non tig welders.

Good piece of gear that could be great

The spool gun works pretty well once you get it dialed in. Only two things I don't like about it are: 1) the ill-ftting clear plastic cover over the compartment. It fit well for about the first day, and that's about it. The only good thing about the cover is it does help keep most of the debri and dust out of the wire area. But it could have been much, much better designed without an increase in cost. So prepare for a cover that kinda does the job, but doesn't fit correctly. The 2nd thing is the neck on the front of the gun should be flexible. The gun is huge anyway, but the solid neck makes it more difficult to work with than it really needs to be. I'm not talking about anything crazy, but the ability to slightly angle the tip one way or the other would be hugely beneficial when fighting the size of the rest of the gun in a narrow space. Those two things aside, it's a good piece of gear. I've run a couple 1lb spools of wire through it and haven't had a lot of problems. If need to weld aluminum and don't want to mess with TIG, this is a good option.
