Hydraulic Line Would Not Engage

After re-installing the transmission it was time to connect the master cylinder hydraulic line, but it would not snap in. You can imagine my disappointment at the prospect of removing the transmission because I had purchased a faulty slave cylinder. It appeared that the fingers on the locking mechanism inside the coupling was at fault so I removed it and used the one from my old slave cylinder. Doesn't anyone inspect these things before they leave the factory?
