Open the lid, add the discs, close the lid, Aim , pull the trigger and let the fun begin, my cats loved this so much. This is an interesting little human-operated cat toy that combines two separate cat-friendly items into one device: 1) a “laser-like” light that projects a red dot (actually a red dot surrounded by a red circle) onto what ever surface you are pointing the device at; and 2) a “gun” or projectile emitter that throws s small catnip-infused disc about 5 human paces in front of it. The laser-like light is just and ordinary flashlight bulb in a tube, and not an actual laser, and as such the red dot image it projects grows larger and dimmer the further away the surface is that is shined on. This generally means that it is mostly a close-encounter device, as the effect rapidly fades with distance. Likewise, the catnip-infused disc doesn't fly very far, nor have much impact when ejected. The blaster comes in a bubble wrap pack without any batteries. You will have to supply your own batteries (two AAA batteries) which are inserted from the bottom of the handle. The blaster also has two triggers – one inside a trigger guard that fires the disc, and the other trigger below the trigger guard, and turns on the red-dot light. I have four cats that I have tried this cat toy on. Two of the cats go nuts over the catnip-infused discs, while the other two cats couldn't care less. The same two cats that go nuts over the catnip also like to chase around the red dot, while the other two cats couldn't care less about the red dot. So this may be a great toy for your cats, or not – depending on the cat.
