I have had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for over two decades now. Monash University in Australia has led the research into IBS for many years now. They have extensive information on the role that fiber (fibre, as they write it) has in moderating IBS. They have studied the effects of Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) on IBS, and the results have been promising. I have found it to be markedly better than psyllium husk, which is the most commonly used fiber for IBS treatment. It's important to know that the Swanson Capsules are not partially hydrolyzed, and there is a difference. Too much of the non- partially hydrolyzed kind can make IBS symptoms worse. I do use the Swanson Capsule on trips or times when PHGG is not available or hard to transport. PHGG is only available as a powder, as far as I know, so the capsules are much more practical. If you are using this to treat IBS, you want to stay with the PHGG when you can. As far as I can tell the Swanson Capsules are just fine for short term use. They also seem to be more cost effective. India and Pakistan produce approximately 80% of the world's guar, so tariffs and the war have substantially increased the cost of both. The capsules are easy to use. They are a white powder in a clear capsule, so they do look like other supplements.
