Understand pump flow changes with discharge depth

There is something that may be a bit misleading about the specifications related to range of pump discharge depth that is provided. The flow graph or chart for the pump is not shown. This is key information as it will give you an estimated air flowrate for a certain depth of water where the diffuser or hose discharges. The specifications suggests a depth range of up to 15'. On the actual pump packaging there is a flow graph. This graph shows that at approximately 14' depth, the airflow rate is ~ ZERO. Also, the stated airflow rate (5.3 CFM) is given at vented atmospheric conditions, i.e., not underwater at depth. Realistically the pump cannot output 5.3 CFM when under anything more than one foot of water depth. Keep in mind that a diffuser stone, or ring, the hose ID and hose length all play a part in pressure drop and flow rate. The ratings on the pump flow graph seem to show that one should expect about 3.5 CFM at 5 foot depth, 2.8 CFM at 7 foot depth, 1.75 CFM at 10 foot depth, and about 1 CFM at 12 foot depth. I would recommend that Walmart and Half Off Ponds put this pump flow graph info in the product description so potential customers are aware of the real-world pump flow rates. If someone actually thought the pump would work to a depth of 15', they may be very disappointed upon initial use of the pump. I am waiting on a diffuser to connect to the pump, so I haven't tested operation in the 10' water depth I intend to use. I will provide an update to this review after operating the pump soon.
