C-123 ProviderDescription: The C-123 Provider was a military transport aircraft manufactured by Chase Aircraft and Fairchild Aircraft. With its low landing profile, the C-123 was no different from any transport aircraft of its time. The aircraft was initially conceived as a military glider with an all-metal fuselage but later on modified to fit various roles, which include search and rescue. More popularly known for its role in the Operation Ranch Hand, the C-123 plane was used in South Vietnam in the defoliation of undergrowth used by Vietnamese troops for hiding and provisions. The C-123 was one of the aircraft that carried Agent Orange, an herbicide used to destroy crops and trees in Vietnam. Notwithstanding its infamous reputation for spreading defoliants over parts of Vietnam, the C-123 Provider was an efficient transport plane that served the US Air Force, US Navy, and South Vietnamese Air Force.
