OVERVIEW
The Goodyear EfficientGrip ROF (*) is a performance and high performance, summer tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs. This model is the original equipment tire of select BMW vehicles.
The tire promotes great summer weather traction. The special tire compound and the tread design work together to enhance the dry and wet weather traction. However, the tire is not meant to be used in winter weather. The compound does not maintain its flexibility, while the tread is not capable of firmly gripping the road surface. The wide circumferential grooves manage to keep the tire close to the road surface by effectively dispersing water from below the tire's footprint. The result is a safer summer weather performance.
This model is a run flat tire, which means that it can be driven on after air pressure loss for a limited time. The tire's reinforced internal structure strengthens the tire to be able to withstand the vehicle's weight in case of air pressure loss. In this manner, the tire can be used for 50 miles up to the speed of 50 mph after the air pressure leaves the tire, preventing the driver from being stranded on the side of the road. These tires have a heavier construction and as a result, they cannot be mixed with regular tires on the same vehicles.
The specialized FuelSaving technology manages to make the tire environmentally friendly and fuel efficient at the same time. It decreases the tire's overall weight, which in turn lowers the rolling resistance. The rolling resistance is the force affecting the tires, that determines vehicle's energy usage. The reduced rolling resistance manages to lower the vehicle's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also manages to significantly slow the tread wear rate down. The slower tread wear rate lengthens the tire's usability and tread life, making the model more cost efficient.
The tread design keeps the tire close to the road surface. The siped center rib enhances the steering responsiveness and the driving stability, to easily control the vehicle in all summer conditions. In other words, the steering and the stability enhance the model's overall controllability in dry and wet weather. The special siping detail of the tread design boosts the braking capability. The sipes increase their road gripping ability and create friction at the moment of braking, efficiently shortening the braking distance and offering a safer driving experience.
The EfficientGrip ROF (*) offers a quiet drive. The tread pattern features a variable pitch sequence which manages to decrease the road noise levels heard in the vehicle's cabin. The variable pitch creates a sound frequency that negates the road noise levels heard while the tires are in motion. This ensures a quiet and comfortable summer weather performance.
Manufacturers recommend changing tires every 10 years. As long as tires are properly stored before they are sold, the year of their manufacture will not shorten their service life.
