0084296353125. New condition. CD. One of the strongest features of the Beatles songbook is its musical versatility, and several soul and R&B artists have had some success covering Beatles material. This brief collection features Billy Preston's take on "Get Back" (Preston, of course, played on the Beatles' original version), Otis Redding's horn and organ-driven "Day Tripper," and Booker T. & the MG's' elegant instrumental rendering of "Michelle." A couple of things here simply don't work, though, like Arthur Conley's ill-advised "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (it's probably more the song's fault than Conley's, but he still should have known better), and the idea of Fats Domino doing "Lady Madonna" turns out to be a whole lot more exciting than the actual result. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
