- No voltage loss
- The battery isolator is a microprocessor controlled heavy duty relay that automatically connects batteries in parallel when one battery has reached a preset voltage (indicating that the battery is being charged), and disconnects when the voltage decreases below float level (indicating that one or both batteries are being discharged).
- TYTXRV battery isolators are an excellent replacement for diode isolators. The main feature is that there is virtually no voltage loss so that the output voltage of alternators or battery chargers does not need to be increased.
- Prioritising the starter battery
- In a typical setup the alternator is directly connected to the starter battery. The accessory battery and other batteries are each connected to the starter battery with battery isolators. When the battery isolator senses that the starter battery has reached the connect voltage it will engage, to allow for parallel charging of the other batteries.
- Bidirectional voltage sensing and power supply from both batteries
- The battery isolator senses the voltage of both connected batteries. It will therefore also engage if for example the accessory battery is being charged by a battery charger.
- The battery isolator has a dual power supply. It will therefore also close if the voltage on one battery is too low to operate the isolator.
- Parallel connection in case of emergency (Assist Boot Switch)
- The isolator can also be engaged with a push button (the isolator remains engaged during 40-60 seconds) or a switch to connect batteries in parallel manually. This is especially useful in case of emergency when the starter battery is discharged or damaged.
- INSTALLATION(Refer to the attached wiring diagram)
- The isolator can only be used in 12V or 24V installations with a negative common. It can automatically adjust to a 12V/24V system.
- NOTE:
- + Proper and correct connections and safety features must be followed according to local applicable regulations.
- + Use suitable sized cables and connectors and keep the cable connections as short as possible.
- + Use reliable terminals and torque the bolts tightly.
- CAUTION! Isolator ratings must be equal or greater than alternator amperage rating.
- CAUTION! DO NOT INSTALL IN THE PRESENCE OF RUNNING ENGINES OR ANY BURNING MATERIAL.
- 1. Disconnect the wires from the negative pole of the two batteries.
- NOTE: FOLLOW VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DISCONNECTING BATTERY.
- 2. Mount the isolator in a convenient location near the main battery bank and away from any sources of heat, allowing for proper ventilation. Never mount directly on the engine.
- 3. Cut one 6-10mm2 red wire of suitable length and terminate each end with a suitably sized ring lug connector. Run the red wire (L1) from the main (start) battery positive (+) pole to the isolator's BATT1 bolt (87).
- 4. Cut another 6-10mm2 red wire of suitable length and terminate each end with a suitably sized ring lug connector. Run the red wire (L2) from the secondary battery positive (+) pole to the isolator's BATT2 bolt (30) and install a properly sized fuse (max. 120A) in the wire between the battery and the isolator.
- 5. Cut a 6mm2 black wire (L3) of suitable length and terminate one end with a suitably sized ring lug connector. Connect it from the secondary battery negative (-) pole to the chassis (ground) of the car.
- 6. Cut a 1-2mm2 black wire (L4) of suitable length and terminate one end with a suitably sized ring lug connector. Connect it from the isolator GND terminal (86) to the chassis (ground) of the car.
- 7. If required, an emergency start push button can be wired (1-2mm2) to the isolator's Asst. Start terminal (85). The isolator will remain engaged during 40-60 seconds when the push button is momentarily switched on. If the push button keeps switched on, the isolator will also stay engaged so as to establish a parallel connection between the two batteries.
- 8. Reconnect the negative pole of both batteries.
- 9. When both batteries' voltage is lower than 10V, the isolator will not start function. When either battery's voltage is zero, the isolator will disengage to effectively protect the alternator and the circuit.

Many vehicles have multiple batteries: one to start the engine and others to power accessories. Without a battery isolator a battery with a lower charge will rob power from a battery with a higher charge, until the batteries equalize. This problem is known as multiple battery drain and could leave you with dead batteries.
To eliminate the multi-battery drain problem, a battery isolator acts as a check valve between the batteries, preventing the current from flowing from one battery to another. Each battery is isolated and acts as an independent power source. So no matter how drained your accessory batteries become, they will never drain power from the battery you're depending on to start your engine.
When the alternator is charging, current can only flow from one direction, from the alternator to the batteries. Each battery then determines the amount of current which flows into it by its own state of charge based on the voltage regulator setting.
With this system, the alternator is protected, the batteries are protected. The balanced circuit electronic isolator is the absolutely the best way that proper isolation and control can be accomplished, solving every multi-battery drain problem.
Some battery isolators will disconnect a battery in case of a short but high amperage load. A battery isolator also may fail to connect a large but discharged battery bank because the DC voltage immediately drops below the disengage value once the batteries are connected. The battery isolator does more than simply connect and disconnect based on battery voltage and with a fixed time delay. The battery isolator looks at the general trend (voltage increasing or decreasing) and reverses a previous action only if the trend has reversed during a certain period of time. The time delay depends on the voltage deviation from the trend.
