La Crosse Technology Handheld AM/FM/Weather Band NOAA Weather Radio 810-805

I love the feel of this tiny, super lightweight (5oz with 3 AAs in it!) radio for my backpacking needs. FM is very clear even without extending the antenna (don't those ALWAYS break in like the first week?). WB comes in pretty clear on at least 3 stations (I am in NH) and very clear on at least 1. It's downfall is AM though - this is pretty awful. For my purposes, it's great - and the NOAA alert system is a great added value - maybe even the biggest value. To have the radio off to enjoy peace and quiet of nature, but with that warning functionality - that's huge. My first battery test (cheapie alkalines) however were another "ouch". I got maybe 20 hours of run time and 8 hrs of "standby". I'm going to try next with Duracell and then Duracell rechargeables and will report back if these are significantly better (one would hope).
