Intended to wear with a sleeveless light summer dress to give the dress a more complete, more "dressy" appearance, Adding the little jacket -- I don't consider it a "cardigan" because it does not have that function for me -- will allow coming from back from a vacation shopping trip in town and putting on the jacket to wear the same dress to a nice restaurant without having to change clothes. Actually, the dress was shown in that manner on the catalog/website picture. I just wish there were more mid-calf length casual dresses available instead of the mini-mini-mini sacks that don't even look good on most models, and particularly not on someone like me who does not have exactly a perfect body and legs, on top of that in that less than flattering Empire style! And then there are those enormously long maxis that one has to lift up to prevent them from catching in rolling stairs. Skirts continue to come in the right lengths but why can't there be a few flattering dresses? Oh, well, I guess I'll have to wait a few years and, in the meantime wear what I have to the detriment of the stores, who could have received extra business from me this summer when I came back from a trip to Mallorca, where I had a bag stolen with all my nicest dresses and looked at thousands of dresses without much success (the dress I mentioned in the beginning was a maxi that I had cut off but with many of the maxis that's not possible because they have valances or special decorations on the bottom that would make the dress look ill-proportioned after cutting it off). Regarding the Bottom Line question below: I never recommend my clothes to anyone: 1. I have my own style, 2. I don't want my friends to wear the same clothes I wear, 3. Recommendation are a risky business. Sorry to have deviated so much in my comments going from the butterflies to elephants. dg
