this is a velvet material, and it's really nice. The color is a bit more greyish, but it didn't bother me. It does have a smell when you open it, but it's a new item... I would expect some smell. It's very comfortable too. Over all i do recommend

I would say the color is "greige" - neither gray or beige. I did not see any purple undertones as another review stated. Very satisfied with the purchase!
