The Sunbeam Candles shop runs on a 3,520W solar electric (photovoltaic) system. This system ties directly to the utility grid–no batteries–and generates roughly 10 kWh per day or 3,750 kWh per year of pollution-free electricity. What electricity we don’t make, we buy from companies producing electricity from 100% renewable resources such as wind power and biomass generation. So, all the energy we use at Sunbeam Candles is renewable, all year long. Sunbeam Candles is committed to paying a living wage to all its employees. As a result, we have pledged to pay a minimum wage equal to or greater than the local living wage as determined by the Tompkins County Living Wage board. The board performs an extremely in-depth review of the local cost of living and adjusts its rate every two years. Sunbeam Candles shares 10% of its annual profits with its employees. We believe that investing in our team is investing in the quality of our products.
