Very satisified with the Insinkerator

We re-did our kitchen and having been using the Insinkerator for about a month. No problems, it works well and is the quietest garbage disposal we've ever had. Great that we can have a disposal that's compatible with our septic. I have only good things to say about it.

Silent, powerful,

I had a cheap badgers in my previous houses, they did their job. I finally built my own house so I've been buying nice things for it. Except for the large leg bones I put an entire chicken carcass down this thing, didnt even shake the stainless steel sink. it's also taken Grape Vines with ease. Orange peels and banana peels were devoured as quickly as water. I recorded it chewing up bones and you can't hear the disposal over the running water.

So far so good

When we moved in 27 years ago, we installed a 3/4hp ISE disposal. It had a 7-year warranty, and about 6 years in, one of the hammers came loose and started making a racket. I called ISE and they replaced the unit; the labor I think I paid for, but still, not bad. Fast-forward another 21 years, and the second unit is still running, but seems to finally be weakening. In addition, the rubber flange at the top is torn, so nasty stuff sometimes flies out while it's in use. It sure doesn't owe us anything, so time for a replacement! No reason not to go with ISE, so we did the research and bought this unit. I did have a bit of trouble distinguishing the Pro 1100XL from the Evolution 1000. I reached out to ISE and got email that answered my questions, but it would be better if the literature or the website made the differences clearer. (To maybe save someone else the trouble:1/10HP and a longer warranty on the Pro.) It's been in for a few weeks, and works great. It's so quiet that I keep thinking it's broken, but it's not! (It also soft-starts, so you throw the switch and there isn't any noise instantly. This is of course not a bad thing, but takes some getting used to.) The only reason I gave it only a 4-star rating for installation is that the plumber--a crusty old guy who's seen it all (and has done other work for us)--had a lot of trouble lifting it up to the collar because it's so heavy. That isn't a defect, but is something to be aware of if you're installing it alone. I tried to help, I couldn't do much, since it's tight under the sink; he finally used his feet to lift it and got it to latch in. Somebody could make a lot of plumbers happy with a cheap but effective scissors jack for this task. We'll see if it lasts another 20+ years (well, no, we won't, I won't be in this house that much longer), but we're happy with it! P.S. No idea what the "Innovation" rating is supposed to mean here, so I gave it an average rating. This should not be a required item!
