Is it better to rent or buy a flute?

It really depends on how long you plan to play the instrument. If you or your child plans to play it for a year or longer, buying is definitely the least expensive option that makes the most sense. If you're just starting out, it may make sense to rent until you've determined if it's the right instrument for you.

At what age can my child learn to play the flute?

You can learn to play the flute at practically any age, but most experts recommend starting children out around age 6 or older. Your child's maturity, eagerness, and ability to hold the instrument correctly may also come into play when making a decision. Some children are ready and able at 6, while others might not be ready until they are 9 or 10 years old. Starting a child before they're mature enough to show interest could result in boredom and turn them away from playing music altogether.

When should I introduce my child to the recorder?

The recorder is a great first musical instrument for young children, and you can begin introducing them to it around age 5. By this age, they're able to sit and pay attention to brief lessons on how to play the recorder correctly.
