How do I cook popcorn kernels on the stovetop?

When making popcorn on a stovetop, you'll need a lidded pot to cook it in. Place the pot over medium heat and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of canola or vegetable oil. To determine if the pot is heated correctly, add a few test kernels and make sure they pop. After testing the kernels, you can add as many as you like and watch them pop. Once they've all popped, pour the popcorn into a bowl and add seasoning, salt, and butter as you like.
