Hair pomade is a middle ground between gel and hair wax, and can either be waxy or water-based. It provides hold for your hair without becoming stiff and rigid.

Pomades come in light, medium, and strong holds. A light-hold pomade works well for fine hair as well as medium and long styles and allows you to restyle it without adding more. A medium hold is ideal for short to medium styles and can add more texture and even spike hair. You can use a strong-hold pomade for thick hair that you want to keep in place all day.

Hair pomade comes in a choice of shiny or matte as well. Use a shiny pomade when you use it on damp hair for a light hold. When you're styling dry hair, a matte pomade creates a stronger, more texturized hold.
