About Beef Steaks in Beef & Lamb - Walmart.com

What is the shelf life of a raw steak?

Steaks will typically last from three to five days in your refrigerator. The sell-by date may pass in that time, but a steak will remain safe for a few days beyond that date if properly stored. To maximize the shelf life, keep your steak in its original packaging until you’re ready to cook it. If you start to notice a slimy surface film, a change in color to brown, yellow, or green, or an off-putting smell, discard your meat as these are signs your beef has spoiled beyond being safe to eat.

Are steaks still good after being frozen?

Freezing steaks is a great way to preserve their quality for an extended period. The key to properly freezing steaks is to keep air off of the surface of the meat. Individually wrap each piece of steak in plastic wrap as tightly as possible or vacuum pack it to get the most airtight seal. After your pieces are individually wrapped, add a second layer of protection by placing them in a freeze-safe plastic bag. Label your bag with the packaging date and enjoy within 12 months of freezing for best quality.

What are the most tender cuts of steak?

The top cuts of steak in tenderness are filet mignon, T-bone, porterhouse, rib-eye, strip, top sirloin, and flat iron steak. While the most tender cuts tend to be on the higher side of the beef price range, they pack some of the most delicious flavors easily enjoyed cooked with just a light seasoning.
