What are some tips for displaying my toy collectibles?
Bookshelves, display cases, and china cabinets aren't the only places to display your collection. Consider choosing a focal point for one or two items in the collection in different rooms to provide a conversation piece. Lighting can highlight pieces and add shadows for extra drama. Consider placing collectibles on buffets, shelves, mantels, and accent tables. But if you're trying to highlight your collection, make sure you choose a spot with a simple background to avoid interfering with the display.
Why do collectors keep items in boxes?
There’s no guideline or rule that says you have to keep collectibles in their boxes. But many people like to keep collectible toys in their original boxes to increase their value for resale down the line. Others like to take them out so they can display and play with them outside of the packaging. It’s a personal preference.
How can I clean my collectible toys?
All you need is a bowl of lukewarm water, mild dishwashing liquid that doesn't have moisturizers, a soft-bristled toothbrush, and some paper towels. Start by examining the toy and looking for stains or heavily soiled areas that need closer attention. Soak the toys in water for five to 10 minutes. Then, wet the toothbrush and apply a little soap before lightly scrubbing over the toys. Once the figures are soapy, allow them to sit for a couple minutes before placing them back in the water and scrubbing over them again. Rinse them clean and wipe them dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
