Are pedals universal on any bike?

As long as the thread is the right size for the crank on your bike, bike pedals are universal to different makes and models. You'll be able to choose whichever type best fits your riding style.

Does it matter which side of the bike I put the pedals on?

Yes, it matters how you install the bike pedals. Each pair is designed for either the right or left side of the bike. If you install them incorrectly, you'll strip the crank arms and pedal threads. Look for an L and R to tell you which pedal goes on which side. If you can't see those letters, then look for how the pedals are threaded. To the right threads go on the right, and to the left threads go on the left.

How do I choose the right style of bike pedal?

Choose your bike pedals based on the type of biking you like to do. If you go off-roading or on trails, then mountain bike pedals are a great choice. Clipless bike pedals are good for casual riding and commuting, as well.
