Acne-prone skin tends to be oily but doesn't have to be. Look for facial skin care products that contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to help prevent your pores from becoming clogged. Facial cleansers, moisturizers, and even sunscreens should contain a label stating that they're noncomedogenic. That means these products won't clog your pores, which is a leading cause of acne production.

Even if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you should still use a moisturizer, but it should be oil-free. Moisturizing is important because dry skin may overcompensate for a lack of hydration and produce even more oil, causing acne. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid may be harsh for sensitive skin. If this is the case for you, a cleanser that includes zinc is ideal.
