Will pre-stretched canvas loosen under the weight of paint?

You shouldn't have any problems with the canvas stretching unless you paint impasto with oils or acrylics and lay the paint heavily. If the canvas starts to have some give, you can pull it taut and re-staple it. If the canvas hasn't been pretreated, you can use a primer such as gesso to prevent the canvas from stretching.
