I haven&#39;t actually measured my door, but it&#39;s a regular interior door and the rack fits it well.

The listed door thickness is all this shoe rack is able to fit. It does not appear as though the over the door part expands.

Hi Kris. To assemble the over the door bracket and the side frame, simply place the door brackets over the top of the door. Slide the top of the assembled unit into the notches in the over the door brackets. It's super easy! Our instructions come with clear illustrations and simple directions.

I bought three racks total for all my shoes. I hung one on the back of the door into a wall-mounted. This required putting a board screwed to the wall acting like the top of the door to hang from. 
 Be sure to check the connectors, and if needed, but a drop of super glue so they don't come apart. 
 I also secured the bottoms to keep them from flapping when removing shoes are closing the door.

Easy to assemble and install

Easy to put together, and strong.  Holds 36 pair of shoes, just as they claimed.  I love it.  I use it inside my closet door for my precious shoes, and use a mesh one on the outside.  I am happy with this purchase.

Really Nice Shoe Rack, 36 Pairs Of Shoes!!!!

This over the door shoe rack is well designed, allowing the front of the shoes to angle down towards the front so they will meet the door (instead of free fall from behind!) if they slide. Holds 36 pairs of shoes well, with enough space for the clothes hanging in the closet. If you have a lot of shoes this is a great purchase. You may want to use command strips to connect the bottom rack or two to the door.

Perfect for shoe storage

I don't understand the bad reviews, this thing is AWESOME ! Self explanatory instructions, easy to assemble, aluminum  poles that snap securely in place. What's not to love ? It comes with pre-made holes to secure it to the door. Seriously, the sides are plastic with holes to secure it and the instructions tell you they're there 🙄 why wouldn't you use them ? This thing is awesome for anyone with a mild shoe addiction 😆

worth every penny, I'm buying a second one.

I am very pleased with this item.  Just one small problem - you may need to screw it into the door to keep shoes from falling off.  On the whole - totally worth it.

Whitmor 36-Pair Over-the-Door Shoe Rack

I love this shoe rack for many reasons. One for how many shoes it holds. It was easy to put together and very easy to install. However, I am taking a star away because on each section it pulls away from the door allowing the shoes to fall through. Which made me come up with some kind of way to secure it to the door on each section. On those section there is a tiny tab with a hole that you can probably use for a screw but since I live in a apartment I didn't want to make holes in their doors.

Great but needs some securing

My only complaint is that in order for my shoes not to slide out the back everytime I open my door or bump it was to secure it. There were no screws sent in the package so I used left over command strips. So far so good, but overall I am happy with this show rack.

Happy with this shoe rack

Not really the best option, takes some modifying if you have tall shoes or boots of any kind (I removed one set of bars from each of the 3 sections to fit 6 pairs of hiking and cowboy boots, seems sturdy enough still) . Really only fits 2 pairs per row so max is 24 pairs or with the removed rungs for my boots 18 pairs. The top is almost too wide for my doors but it holds on just fine. Has holes for screwing to door but no screws, I just hung it and it doesn't move with shoes on it so no need for drilling into door unless you want to. Door will not open as wide for in swinging doors if that makes sense. Overall it is fine but I'd probably go with one that sits on the floor if I was buying one again. Hard to find ones that boots fit in really.

Decent, not actually made for tall shoes/boots

If you don't secure this rack to the door it will fall...the heavier the shoes the more unstable it will be but it looks good once everything is up and in place just secure it with a nail to enjoy it!

Frustrating needs to be secured

Shoes do not stay on the rack.  They slide right off if I close the door too hard.  Had to affix the bottom to the door with command strips.  Hopefully this will work.
