I, too, decided to replace my Farberware because we got a glass cooktop and the pots and pans would spin when I stirred food, not to mention we got a few scratches here and there on the cooktop itself. Wanted something heavier to prevent the spinning, flat on bottom to prevent scratches, and with a lifetime warranty because I'm frugal and don't want to spend a ton of money if the product isn't going to last. Plus I wanted it oven and dishwasher safe. A tall order filled by this set, at a fraction of the cost of All Clad, and Walmart delivered to the store within 2 days. Couldn't be happier. It's gorgeous, but it's for cooking, so vanity aside, it cooks really well. I hate cooking, so anything to make it easier is fine by me. This set delivers. Just remember to cook on lower heat settings. For the common questions: -This set is oven safe to 500 because it has SS lids. Sets with glass lids are safe to 350. -Perfect for glass and induction cooktops. -Pot edges are straight, not rounded, but I haven't had issues pouring out of the pots. Just pour fast. -Lids do not fit skillets pans.

I researched many cookware sets after deciding my 31-year-old Farberware had had it (the handles were so loose, I couldn't be sure they'd hold anymore!). For the money, this Tramontina set seemed the best -- the many other positive reviews it received, plus the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen, helped me to take the plunge. I could not be happier! The cooking results with each piece are incredibly even, and very low temperatures get the job done. Clean-up is easy, too, and a (very) little Barkeeper's Friend puts the shine back on when needed (the "rainbow" effect doesn't bother me much, it just looks like normal wear from cooking, but restoring the appearance with BkprF is worth the little bit of extra effort because it just looks so beautiful!). Opening the drawers in my kitchen where I store this cookware is a little like opening a jewelry box, as they are so shiny and beautiful, but the set delivers on cooking the food, too. I highly recommend it!

This cookware set was everything I hoped it would be. I only wish the lids were glass. If you are looking for high quality all clad cookware this set will not disappoint you. Great cookware for a great price.

    • Not same set. I only have the 10pc set plus the 12"frypan open and the 2 qt saucepan mine are 18/10 tri-ply clad stainless steel. So maybe that is the differents. 18/10 verses the 18/8 stainless I really don't know for sure.

    • The 8 piece probably has the glass lids which are only safe up to 350 whereas the 10 pc has the stainless lids

    • We apologize for the confusion about the temperature. Unfortunately, there is a discrepancy with the temperature on the website for the 8 Pc. Set, and we will try to have it corrected . The Tri-Ply Clad cookware (Model 80116/544) is oven-safe up to 450°F (232°C), is compatible with gas, electric, ceramic glass and induction cooktops, and comes with a lifetime warranty. It is an older model, and was tested up to 450 degrees, and has the wrong temperature listed - leading to the confusion. The Tri-Ply Clad cookware set (Model 80116/566) is a newer model, and has bee tested to be oven-safe up to 500°F. It is also compatible with gas, electric, ceramic glass and induction cooktops, and features a lifetime warranty. We hope that we have cleared up any confusion, and that you will decide to purchase Tramontina products based on our quality and commitment to service.

    • Everything I've read about the Tri-Ply Clad cookware on Tramontina's website shows that everything is oven safe up to 500 degrees. I think the 8 piece set description is wrong.

It says 18/10 but is it 302 or 304 stainless steel? I'm trying to understand how 18/10 can be magnetic and also how corrosion resistent these pans are.
    by lmouse 12/1/2013
    • Tri-ply clad = 3 layers of metals sandwiches together. 18/10 stainless steel, aluminum, 18/0 stainless which is magnetic. Hope that helps. I don't know what you mean by 302 or 304.

    • Tramontina 18/10 stainless steel is tri-ply clad. That being said they have three different materials sandwiched together.

    • 18/10 stainless steel is equivalent to 304 stainless steel. If the alloy is "ferritic" stainless steel, then it is indeed magnetic, and the exterior of these items is indeed magnetic. Other steel alloy "phases" are possible, of course, and some of those are non-magnetic. Keep in mind that the exterior was selected to be "ferritic"/magnetic, for induction cooktop compatibility, whereas the interior may or may not be "ferritic". An iron-carbon alloy with more than 11 percent chromium is considered to be "stainless". As the alloy in question contains 18 percent chromium, it is indeed "stainless", by definition.

    • 18/10 refers to 18 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel, roughly equivalent to SAE 304. The remainder is mild steel, of course, and mild steel can be and often is magnetic. The corrosion resistance of this cookware in its intended application is quite good.
