I use this every day. You'd be surprised how handy a mortar and pestle can be. I've used it to mush up tomatoes and avocados. I love to mash herbs and spices with garlic to add to delicious home made dressing. Perfect for crushing pills to sneak into pet food for my little dog . . Beautifully made, and VERY useful.. One more thing. I set out a rock hard, unripe avocado in this acacia bowl on the counter. Typically takes 2-3 days to be edible. Surprised to find it ripe, the NEXT day. See for yourself. It really works!

This is the One I Use

I have to comment on the blue accent of the both the wooden brown and pestle, makes it pretty to use. Goes with my color scheme in out kitchen. Useful in the kitchen for many cooking preparation process, ie crushing panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese or Ritz cracker for side and main dishes. It is also useful when preparing cilantro for homemade salsa. Recently recovering from jaw surgery, it was used it to crush some meds I was unable to swallow, real helpful a real plus. It is easy to clean, rinse, wipe and dry. Easy store in my cabinet with other cooking necessities. Benefits are numerous, very well made and durable. Would highly recommend

Very tastefully design and multiple uses

This Thyme & Table Mortar & Pestle set has beautiful craftsmanship. The wood is smooth and gorgeous. I am a foodie and I cook with a lot of fresh herbs and spices so this is perfect for grinding those spices and herbs for delicious meals. The craftsmanship of this mortar & pestle is beautiful. The pestle grinder is thick and durable and has a wide grip to give you more control over crushing, stirring, and mixing. When I am not using this Mortar & Pestle set I have it displayed on my kitchen counter and it makes an attractive display in my kitchen.

Beautiful and functional!

This is a nice wood set! It washes well and does what it was made to do! Very pleased with it! The wood is very beautiful! Worked great to make my dried cilantro and put it in the seasoning containers! Ill be using it next to make parsley seasoning from the garden and hopefully basil too! It has a cute teal painted accent color!

Great wood mortar

This review is for the Thyme and Table essential collection acacia wood mortar and pestle. I love this wooden mortar and pestle in acacia wood with turquoise blue accents. Not only is it a handy essential item to have for any kitchen but it looks lovely too sitting on my cabinet. You can tell that it is a high quality well made item. It is so smooth to the touch. This mortar and pestle is Perfect for grinding sea salt or black peppercorns or any herbs you collect and dry from your herb garden. It will be great for making fresh pesto that my grandson loves. The bowl is quite deep and allows you to work without making a mess on your countertop. Works perfectly! And It compliments and fits perfectly with my wood cutting board. Please note that is hand wash only, as most wooden products are. I am very happy with this mortar and pestle and will always leave it out on the counter to show it off. Five stars for this awesome essential kitchen item by Thyme and Table.

Awesome essential kitchen item

I’ve been needing a replacement for my very old “pilón,” as we call it in Puerto Rico, and this one is perfect. I love the glossy finish and the touch of color. The mouth is wide and roomy for crushing many herbs and spices. I can’t wait to make some Mofongo with it!

Beautiful

The Thyme & Table wooden mortar and pestle set is a great addition to any kitchen. I love cooking and using fresh tasting fine ground dry herbs prepared with this mortar and pestle really helps bring out the full flavors and goodness of the dishes that I prepare. This set is easy to use and easy to clean. It looks beautiful and is made from high quality acacia wood with a modern blue accent on the bottom of the bowl and the top hand held part. This set looks nice and very decorative on my kitchen countertop, it’s a little eye catching gem and looks nice enough to even leave out. I really like the look, the quality and ease of use! I definitely recommend it!

Great quality, easy to use and clean!

This Mortar & Pestle set has a smooth wood surface. It is 4" high and 4" wide. It has tall sides that keep contents from spilling out, which prevents minimal kitchen messes. Its weight of 9.37 oz w/o pestle and 11.27 oz w/pestle provides extra stability while in use. It is the same height and width as my 16oz coffee mug!

I was able to quickly grind dried whole basil and oregano leaves in seconds to use in my homemade pasta sauce. I was able to crush my Egyptian Chamomile Tea leaves into both fine and coarse textures to use in my tea ball. I also used this set to crush my dog's daily vitamin tablet into a fine powder and put it in her food. It has so many uses, saves time and is easy to clean.

This smooth set did not work as well when I tried to crush whole garlic cloves, as I had to really work at it to get the consistency I wanted: I needed a mortar with defined ridges when texture is more important and aids in breaking down tougher items like sesame seeds, peppercorns, tenderizing the skins of hot chiles, and pounding glutinous rice. But for dry spices, this set is excellent! I just wish the bottom of the mortar had non-skid silicone, like my mixing bowls. I was impressed with the overall design and function of this set.

Smooth wood set grinds dry spices, crushes pills

I really like this mini mortar pestle. Love that it's made of wood. I like the shape size and color of it. 4 stars only because you have to hold it while mashing things down in it. It moves easily being lightweight. I use it for mashing ginger for making Indian tea in the mornings. Sometimes for corse grinding of spices like cardamom and cloves. Can't get things ground fine with this but that's ok that's jot the purpose of this mortar pestle anyways. But it's lightweight which is good thing. Just hold It in your hands as you use it. Also for any other corse grinding this works well like coriander seeds etc I use this.

So excited for this light weight mortar pestle

This seems like a good product but I could barely use it because the handle is tiny. Was this made for children hands? And its pointed at the top, which was digging into my palm as I tried to use it. It doesn't come with seasoning instructions. And I would like a natural stone substance instead of this wood one. Wood is hard to keep clean. Can easily stain, and mold. Also with wood its smooth and makes it harder to me , to grind spices. There isn't a rough surface to make it crush the spices. The handle is the ultimate downfall. Its too short and shouldn't be painted. I dont want the potential of paint flakes in my food. And the handle needs to be a substantial size for gripping and power in order to grind. I wouldn't buy this nor give it to anyone. Its cute but I will have to use it as something else.
