I would call it a darker Oak, medium maybe but not light.

The color of it is not like in the picture, it's acctually dark oak, while in the picture looks more orange in acctuallity is more brownish.

It is not light, but not real dark, either.

It is darker than the lt oak look.. the zoom image is more so the shade you will get

Yes, it looks like a press-wood laminated entertainment center. It does work out nicely if you need a low center to avoid blocking a window.

The finish looks the same as any other laminate. Good on first glance, but upon close inspection, it can be seen that it is not wood. This one is not paper laminate though. It is a 1/16 inch plastic laminate over top of particle board. It is not paper thin. I know because I removed the laminate on one piece to put it on the other side. I received the wrong board in my box and had to modify it myself or take it back. It looks good though. They did a good job with this laminate.

Yes, its really cheap looking. I returned mine immediately. Also most of the pieces will be likely damaged through the rough shipping process. Its cheap particle board and the finish is almost laughable.

I've seen worse, and I've seen better. It's certainly not a fine piece of furniture. It looks OK... from a distance. I doubt you'd find much better for the price ($125).

From a distance it looks fine. Up close, you do notice that its a laminate finish. This is most noticeable around the edges. I've also seen better laminate finishes than this one. Regardless, its not horrible, nor an eye sore.

No I don't think so but you will be able to see all of your cables behind the stand.

It would look ok but the stand wouldn't be as sturdy because the drawers and sides screw into the back. My HD DVR is also too big to fit in there so I just had to put it on top instead. It would be nice if the space was deeper or had spaces cut out already.

I would venture to say that without the back piece the unit would not be stable. Go ahead and cut out ports to maintain integrity of the unit.

The rear panel acts as a major support piece, the unit may be somewhat wobbly without it.

The way that this is designed you would have to make some modifications to it to get it to be sturdy without the back piece. The interior drawer piece screws to the back plate because the legs for the drawers are only on the front half. The back plate is what provides the elevation that rear legs would normally do. I would rather cut holes out of the back plate rather than do the modifications to have a TV stand without it. If you had the TV stand in your house and knew how it goes together, I think you'd arrive at the same conclusion.

The back piece is essential...it supports all the other pieces and is what takes most of the weight of whatever you put on top.

Odd only from the standpoint of it falling apart... the back is an integral part of the assembly. Short of a small hole or two for wires, I would not do much to the back. It more than anything else, holds everything together. It's a disappointing design from your standpoint. BTW, I suffer from the same problem.

The back piece is what bears most of the load. It won't stand up without it. My receiver is too deep also. I have it hanging off of the front. Doesn't look great though.

The back piece is critical to the structure of the unit, binding together all the other pieces. It's not something that you can omit. It is made of particle board about 1/2" thick - not something that can be super easily cut up either, especially after construction.

Not only will it look &quot;odd&quot;, but it would definitely be stupid. The unit won&#39;t balance right, and your stuff will fall forward. The back panel of this unit is designed to also be the rear &quot;leg&quot;.
