this is a great backpacking tent because it is SOOOO light. IT might not be that rain proof though so be sure to spray it down with some rain proofer before using it. THe demensions when the tent is packed are about 4 inches in diameter and about 1 foot to a foot and a few inches in length so it is not very large at all. Great for straping to a pack and hiking with.

This would be a matter of opinion, but this tent is not slightly over one foot long. I ordered this and upon arrival I found it to measure at 22 inches long and 5 inches in diameter. At this length it barely fits in my backpack and takes up more room than expected. So this vital information you can use to determine if this is what you are looking for.

Only in the summer or in a dry season. I think you would be happier if you spent a little more and got the Ionosphere tent or some other military style tent.
The military uses the best stuff.

This is meant to be taken on a camping trip and was used during a scouting trip. But it was difficult to setup and not well made.

I purchased this tent specifically for my grandsons scouting trips. He says it's been perfect.

Great unit to use on scout outings. My son used his and enjoyed the privacy he had, and also a place to store his personal gear.

It does not need ropes to stand up, but the rain fly does have two ropes to hold it down with. The tent is still not free standing like a dome tent. It must be staked down in order for it to stand.

the tent is ok for one not two it dose not have a lot of head room but is ok to lay in. over all a good backpacking tent.

Recently used this tent to camp in the Smoky Mountain National Park of North Carolina on a wet/dry weekend. Being in bear country, I did not use the convenient vestibule extension for storing my pack and I am glad I didn't. It down-poured for 12 straight hours during my trip and if I had left my bag (or anything else) in that area, it would have been drenched even with a tarp to minimize the quantity of water leakage.
I applied seam sealer to all the seams (inside and out) and did not get wet at all inside the tent. Extremely easy set up and take down so more focus can be placed on enjoying the rest of the trip rather than set up only. Fairly light weight, but served it's purpose for being as light as it is at the price that it is.
I would highly recommend this purchase if you: a) have an alternate source of protection for your gear if rain is in the forecast, b) a looking for value in price vs. weight, and c) only plan on having to share it with yourself. Without the flaw of a leaking vestibule, this tent would be perfect.

Great Tent with small flaw

This product is a great buy. I have used it twice already and has worked great both times. Both times it was used with two rather large males and we both fit very comfortably with about 6 inches between us. The only downfalls i see in this product is that the metal angled metal piece between the two poles is weak but if you take it easy on it, it will hold up great. I have not used this product in any kind of rough weather besides the cold and wind, but in those it has held up very well. A very good product that i would recomend for the price. :)

Backpacker Tent

The structure and style of this tent is great. Its very easy to set up. Holds up to the wind and rain very well. I like the attached rain fly. The vestibule could use zippers at the bottoms, but not a big deal cause the inside doors zips up tight. Only problem I have is that it is a little bulkie for a backpacking tent. 5lbs. is alot of weight compared to other backpacking tents and it takes up alot more room in my backpack than I expected.

The tent is very utilitarian. It's design is simple and efficient. It's definitely made for one person or maybe two if you're married or dating. If you're an experienced camper and like to travel light this tent is for you. It's a fraction of the cost of many 1-2 man tents.

I recommend setting the tent up once or twice in your yard before you go camping. It's important to keep tension on the cords to help the tent reach maximum height. The tent is very thin, thus reducing the weight. I do recommend setting the tent on a foot print or a tarp. You should definitely spray the tent with water proofer before you go camping. If you're expecting bad weather be sure to keep your pack and boots inside of the tent and not in the vestibule.

set up fast even in the dark. light enough to carry alone used as big one man tent glad i was alone would be tight squeeze with two. kept pack dry in front me dry inside.

did the job

I used this tent on a boy scout outing, a backpacking trip in Soumi Hills, MN. It poured all weekend. Great backpacking tent. Light weight. I wouldn't recomend sleeping two people in it though. It would be pretty tight. You might be able two fit two kids in it, but there would be no room for gear. It stays dry on the inside. If it rains, the gear storage area will be a big puddle because there is no zipper at the bottom of the doors. I recomend that you spray it with waterproofer. That's what i did. The reason i didn't give it five stars is because if it does rain, you have to crawl through a puddle to get in the tent. I found that out the hard way. Overall it is a good tent. I plan on using it on a week long trip in the badlands.

Great backpacking tent!

Nice backpacking tent in most respects -- compact, lightweight, easy to set-up. Just one curious flaw that I can't understand. There's no zipper across the bottom of the doors, so water gets into the vestibule easily and gets your gear wet. There's a divider between the vestibule and the sleeping compartment, so you stay dry. But your pack might be lying in a pool of water in the morning. Other than that, it seems like a great value in comparison to other backpacking tents out there.

Very nice tent except for one puzzling flaw.

pros:
Light and compact tent &lt;$50 but it is not for 2 people, may be 2 kids.
Nice for one person with some gear.
Easy to set up.

cons: From fine print from the tent: only water repellent, not rain proof. The tent got soaked wet in the rain even with footprint. Had to move to B&amp;B in the storm. Be prepared for unexpected weather.

Also the materials are so thin, especially for floor. Will need decent air mat.

This product met its expectations in terms of weight. It was difficult to setup.

On the second night of my camping trip, the pole broke and the tent tore when I was trying to set this up.

I would not recommend this tent - look at alternative singe person tents that may be more expensive but meet the quality and ease of use requirements.
