The Swanson Tool Co 7-Inch Speed Square with Black Markings & Blue Book, model S0101 is such a handy tool. I had a plastic one prior with poor markings that was hard to read. I got this one and it's night and day. So much easier to read and you don't have to work about breaking it if you drop it or step on it. I use it for getting straight cuts on lumber and making sure all of my frames are square before nailing on plywood. I highly recommend

Such a handy tool

The Swanson 7 inch speed square is the perfect tool for carpentry, making lines, ensuring that you have the correct angles and measurements. It can also be used to help cut straight lines with a circular saw.

Some jobs may require a larger square, but seven inches is perfect for most household uses. The lettering of the square is a good contrast for easy visibility, and the metal is not too shiny, so it can be used in direct sunlight.

The Swanson Speed square also comes with a very handy reference manual to assist with calculations.

Does the job perfectly

This is the most versatile tool that I own. I probably use this took more than any other tool that I have. I also use it on almost every project that I work on with a ton of different materials. 
There are too many uses for this tool than I can possibly list. 

I use this for minor projects around the house, it's great if you want to do some basic wood work like making a shelf, working on some trim, etc. It's also really useful for making things out of metal, for doing artwork.

I really like speed squares because they have two of the most useful angles for all kinds of projects. 90 degree, and 45 degrees. These 2 angles are so common and fit together that it helps with almost any project. 

It's got a ton a useful features like the ruler. The slot, and my favorite thing about it is the lip on one of the edges. It lets you hang it on the top of a piece of wood, or let's you slide it across whatever you are working on.

I use this thing all the time

Swanson Tool Company's speed square is absolutely the best. It's not the cheapest, but it's sturdy and well-made. The angles are 100% right on and the markings are clear and easy-to-read. Don't buy the version without the black paint on the markings; the black paint makes the markings stand out. I have a couple of other generic speed squares that are far inferior from a store that starts with Harbor and ends with Freight and they are junk compared to this Swanson speed square.

Spend the extra few dollars to buy this Swanson version of the speed square and you won't regret it. I highly recommend this tool!

Swanson Tool Company's square is the best one made

Square tools are great for all sorts of building products were you need to make perfect 90 degree angles. But they are also great for determining all sorts of angles between 0 and 90 degrees. In addition, this can be used as a straight edge, or a saw guide. I have not used it as a saw guide yet, but it does make for a good straight edge, though it is a little thicker than a ruler. The book that comes with this is a nice little guide any beginner handyperson should have.

Very handy tool for all sorts of projects

I got the Swanson Tool Co 7-Inch Speed Square with Black Markings & Blue Book, model S0101
recently and have always needed one to help get the angles cut correctly, I can usually get close but why estimate when you can be exact. This square is made of solid aluminum and has great markings which makes it very easy to read. These markings won't rub off as they are etched in. The low glare of the metal also helps with reading the square. It comes with a book and it can be handy to the more experienced carpenter but it seems to be a little beyond my knowledge. I think this is a great size square and I plan to invest in the other sizes as well.

What A Square!

What a great tool to have for everyday use. It's sturdy enough to 
handle pretty much whatever you throw at it and can make a big 
difference on your cuts compared to plastic ones that get broken 
fairly quickly

Whether you're handy around the house or a professional this is a must have tool. This Swanson tool comes with a handy book that helps you utilize this tool to it's peak functions. Finding the right pitch, square cuts, determining the rise of a roof...etc. If you're a pro you have one. If you're a novice, get this tool.

Straight Up

This speed square is built to last from handling it. You can get straight 90°, 45° and other angles when you are doing construction on homes and businesses and for personal woodworking crafts in the woodshop. I'm sure that this tool can be used with plastic and metal works too if you have the correct tools to mark them and in cutting them. I like the sleek design and that it doesn't take up a lot of room. You can put it in a toolbox, toolbag or even hang it on a hook in the garage or shop. I recommend this product.

Excellent Swanson Tool Co 7-Inch Speed Square!

I've been doing lots of remodeling and construction in my life and nothing compares to having a Swanson speed square. It gives you all the correct angles and measurements you need for cutting rafters, hip and valley rafters. The diamond will give you the perfect angle for cutting your seat cuts (birds mouth) on rafters. The blue book it comes with has all the answers for you with all the math done for you when deciding how long to cut rafters.
