Yes hit the snooze button and it dims, cutting the brightness about in half, still rather bright though. Hit the snooze again and it goes back to full brightness. Only has the two settings.

The one I just got has 3 brightness settings. Hit the snooze bar and it goes from bright to dim. Hit it again and it goes to medium. Hit it again and you are back to full bright. The older version of this clock-radio did have only 2 brightness settings. The specifications of this unit are changing over time.

The one I just purchased from Walmart today has FM only. Some reports indicate this model was originally AM/FM and Emerson still has an owner manual online cover stating PLL AM/FM, but mine came with an owner manual with PLL FM  on the cover. Not sure when they dropped the AM band but apparently they have.

Isn't it pathetic that the description does not even specify this? They are FM only now. Older ones used to be AM/FM and I have such an older one as well. New ones FM only and reception in my opinion is not very good. The older one I have brings in the AM news stations well. How can a Radio Alarm Clock not even have AM?

The clock has to be plugged in to work.  The battery is for back-up only when the electricity in your house goes off.

Great little clock. Has 3 settings for LED readout: Dim, Normal and Bright.  Sound is excellent.  Best thing about it....Clock resets itself to correct time, whether due to Power Outage or Daylight Savings.  Recommend  product to purchase.

Great little clock, just plug it in and set the time zone and the clock does all the rest. corrects for leap year, Feb 29, DST!

OMG this clock is amazing!!! I plugged it in and it set itself!! I did have to change the time zone but it was easy. big numbers are a plus, if you need a new alarm this one is cool

I like this product because of what it contains which is the smart set for the date and year which is great together with the duel alarm for week days and weekends. Also it has a usb for charging. I recommend this product.

The best product

Over the years, I have only used Emerson clock.  Why?  I will never buy anything else but from Emerson for this purpose.  In the past, it required a 7 volt battery.  Through the years, my second alarm stopped working, which I don't need anymore but I got really annoyed at having to reset my fiance's alarm clock every time the power went out.  That happens a lot in North Dakota.  Daily.  With this upgrade, gone is the 7 volt and now it requires a CR some sort of battery, I don't remember which, but have them on hand. They come with them already in there.  IF ANYONE WORRIES about not waking up if the power goes out?  I super, super, and highly recommend this product.   I've loved it in WI, I loved it in MN and I still love it in ND.  You can take this from room to room, as I've done when we've had a fight, plug it in and BOOM!  It goes right back to what time it is, remembers your alarm times.  Also, with this upgrade, you can charge your phone with the extra USB port in the back.  I truly think that Emerson should contact me for a sales person.  PLEASE, purchase this!

Emerson Smart set alarm clock radio

I love that I can set it not to go off on weekends.  But if I needed it to it's got a setting for that too. The only thing I hate is the light is so bright. Even when I put it on the lowest dim it let's off so much light we don't need a night light. I love it dark when I sleep. The radio for the alarm is also great. It starts low and gets louder the longer it plays.

This radio should have been an exact replacement for a 3 year old model CKS1708.  However upon receiving, I was shocked to find out that the clock "Radio"  is no longer an AM/FM radio but now is a simple FM Only Radio!  
As I listen to talk radio on AM, I will return this item.

Exact Model Number CKS1708,  but without AM Band.

The reception is very poor, the controls are difficult to use, it is very cheap looking. 
I gave it away, do not recommend purchasing this clock/radio.

disappointing purchase

The alarm clock radio came with a defective battery, so none of the "smart set" features worked as advertised. The clock itself is nice, with a large display and a date feature that, when working, will automatically reset the time to daylight saving time or back to standard time. The unit is very small so it fits nicely on a nightstand or small table.
