Yes you need new game, i believe new portal and giant figures. However Skylanders Giants will accept Spyro figures (according to the manufacturer).

Skylanders Giants is an expansion to the first game and you will need a new disc to play. If you already have the original game, you will only need the Portal Owners Pack that is compatible with your console and not the Starter Pack to play.

I pre-ordered this item for my grandson who loves to play Skylanders. He has had so much fun with it.

I sent this for his birthday. He was very happy and was able to use it with ease. He is 8. His parents did have to purchase another piece in order to use it. I was not able to determine that when shopping on line.

My grandson was "psyched".

My son has been counting down the days for this release. We bought it on the first day it was in the stores. It was supposed to be for his birthday, but I couldn't make him wait. He loves GIANTS even more than Spyro's Adventure. So far it's living up to the billing. "Tree Rex" is awesome! We also bought him "Swarm," but he so far is not as cool as Tree Rex. He plays the regular sized guys some on the Giants game, but he just loves those big guys. Very cool!

Skylanders GiIANTS are finally here!

This is a Christmas present so I will be reviewing this product after that time!

My grandson has the "regular" Skylanders and loves them, so when the Giants came out, I was so excited to buy it for him. Not only did I buy him this game, which includes a portal and a character, I bought him many other characters, approximately $200 worth. I anticipated him playing with this new game and these new characters for many months; however, he beat this game in only 3 DAYS!!!! It has only 17 levels and none of them are challenging. What a waste of my money and how disappointing for my grandson!!
