Yes is will keep electric scooters charged. It may be inconvenient to connect to the battery.

I don't see why?. It a tickle charge mean it will take time (overnight), so don't get mix up with those rapid charger.

No, it will not by itself. Your Rascal Scooter has two 12v Batteries wired in series for 24v total. You would have to connect 2 chargers one for each battery. Plus it would take a couple days to charge the u1 batteries due to their size. Not cost effective compared to the other 24v chargers with xlr plug you can find on ebay from $25 and up.

Electric scooters (all) use two 12 volt batteries, in series, for an end result of 24 volts. The Schumacher XM1-5, will only charge one 12 volt battery at a time. For a replacement charger, to charge both batteries at the same time, look into a Soneil (makes most OEM) 24volt chargers.

Secondly, the biggest problem with electric scooter battery maintenance is, the owners fail to provide a sufficient charging time to accomplish a full charge.

To charge 2x 35aH batteries takes about 14 to 16 hour charging time, on a typical 24v, 4aH charger/maintainer. The typical overnight (8 hour) hook up, leaves the batteries undercharged, and sulfating results, causing shorter battery life. --- Using a single 1.5aH charger on a single 35aH battery will probably take about 15 hours, for a full charge.

Best results: Mount your charger (24v, 4aH) in the basket or somewhere on the scooter, and whenever parked or your not using your scooter, plug it in at every opportunity. The more you can keep your batteries at a high state of charge, the longer they will last, typically will double the life of the battery.

Although the Schumacher XM1-5 is an excellent automatic single 12 volt battery charger/maintainer, it is not suited to your 24 volt nor higher amp hour battery scooter needs. Only way to use in your situation, is to unplug and charge each battery separately.

will it work to keep my Rascal 305 mobility scooter batteries fully charged

there is about 4 foot leads for the connecting cables and the same for the 110 connection.

mine is connected 24/7 for the maintaining my battery on my home generator and it is only a little warm to the touch.

I have used it twice. The unit has not gotten warm at all.

the cords are 2 to 3 feet long and the unit does not get excessively warm to the touch. I barely notice a temp change. Appears to be perfectly safe.

From unit to plug, it's probably about 5'; from unit to terminal connections, about 4', so about 9' in total, I'm guessing. It doesn't get warm at all when operating and it has no fan, so there is no noise.

Your leads from the charger are 6 foot long. The unit will get slightly warm

Cables and Accessories:
The Schumacher XM1-5 uses a standard plug connector, same used by: Battery Tender, Black &amp; Decker, Hopkins, KeyLine Chargers, MotoBat, Extreme Max, CES, and NOCO.
Accessories, (splitters, extensions, eye-lets, clamps, ETC) are simple, straightforward and reasonably priced and available.

Operating temperature:
Although the bottom of the charger can get warm under heavy load, I would not consider it to run hot, but to keep on the safe side, I set mine on a 4x6 inch ceramic tile (for wall or floor), from Home Depot, for peace of mind.

charge protection

Yes it has a "Float Charge" capability but it is TOO SMALL to charge and maintain a full size car battery. You need the next bigger unit. This is for motorcycle and similar smaller batteries. The Schumacher XC6 can charge AND maintain your car battery. It is smart enough not to overcharge! You can leave it connected without a problem.

This product would work well for you. It is logic controlled and switches to maintenance mode once it has brought the battery to peak charge. No need to worry about overcharging. Remember this charger supplies only 1.5 amps, so whatever the drain is in your vehicle, it must not exceed this (and I wouldn't think it would).

In manual say it does have overcharge protection but it not recommended you leave charger on full time.

The manual states that it does have the "float" option, but it also states that on a car battery it can take 24-36 hours depending on how low the charge is. Also, by reading the reviews, the ones that were negative did say that on larger batteries, it tended to over charge. I am disabled as well, so I understand the need. I would just put it on when the weather drops really low and keep an eye out for the green light. I wouldn't trust the float option on a large battery. If it doesn't work, Walmart has a great return policy (just make sure to take it off at full charge so it doesn't damage your battery). Best of luck Rocket11213.

This should work well for you. It does not over charge and will maintain a fully charged battery. It cannot be used outside where it is exposed to snow and rain.

Some of these replies, don&#39;t sound like the user has even used this Schumacher XM1-5, Charger / Maintainer, no less knows much about proper battery maintenance. Understandable, not a typical concern for most, until the battery goes dead, than its scramble time for a cheap replacement. Lets clear up a few misconceptions.

First off. Myself, I have one of these charger/maintainers constantly connected to no less than 6 batteries, ranging in size from small motorcycle to 140 aH auto batteries to 200aH deep cycle, and have done so for many years without a single problem. This Schumacher XM1-5, is an excellent product, and performs as intended, non stop and without issues. To date, I have yet to experience a single problem with any of my XM1-5 chargers.

Secondly. No matter the size of battery, first charge the battery with an appropriate sized automatic charger. Charging amp hour size = 10% of the battery capacity. (example: 100aH battery = 10aH charger, or, 35aH battery = 3.5aH charger. General rule of thumb. (can fudge a little). 12 hour charge minimum, more is better, to a max of 24 hours. (Less aH charge amount, add more time).

Third. When battery is fully charged, (see above guidelines), disconnect main charger, and connect the Schumacher XM1-5, float charger/maintainer, and walk away, your done. It will maintain the battery at full charge from then on, for a week, month or even a year. I have maintained several this way, at minus 10(F) below zero, without any issues.

(Q:) Will this 1.5 aH charger, recharge a (example) 100aH battery from a low discharged condition?
(A:) Yes it could, but it might take several months. Hence the reason for initial charge using a charger 10% of battery capacity for quicker results.

In re: other concerns &ndash;

(a) The Schumacher XM1-5, is a &#39;Float Charger&#39;. A float charger is designed to automatically turn on and off as needed, to maintain a battery in a state of full charge.

(b) The Schumacher XM1-5, is NOT a &#39;trickle charger&#39;. A trickle charger delivers a small constant charge non stop, until &#39;manually&#39; turned off. Trickle chargers are notorious for overcharging batteries, and why they are seldom sold and seldom used.

(c) A vehicle that is used (typically) for short runs to the store, will not charge nor maintain a battery at full charge. A 2 hour drive down the freeway, yes, 10 minute to the corner store, no.

Strongly recommended if vehicle is only used for short drives, you connect a small float charger upon your return. Remember, when a battery is not stored in a state of full charge, it will sulfate the plates, and decrease its ability to store energy. As the battery sulfates more and more, the amount of charge will decrease, more and more, till it becomes unable to store enough energy to start the vehicle.
As temperatures get lower, the batteries ability to store sufficient energy also decreases, and why the battery that previously worked good during Summer, fails come Winter use.

(d) All vehicles draw a small amount of power from the battery, even when parked. A float charger like the Schumacher XM1-5 will supplement this loss, and maintain battery to proper voltage automatically.

(e) Electric scooters users typically undercharge their batteries, leading to sulfate, resulting in shorter battery life. An 8 hour overnight recharge is typically insufficient. To example: Two 35aH batteries, on a OEM 4ah 24 volt charger is insufficient for a full charge. Should be charged 15 hours minimum, more the better to insure a full charge.

(f) All battery charger / maintainers operate in 3 stages: (1)Bulk, (2)Absorb, (3)Float, no matter how many additional stages are added for eye-wash. Expensive charger/maintainers of same aH rating (typically 1.5 aH), as less costly name brand units, accomplish the same, at the same speed with the same results. So why spend $99. for a unit with lots of blinking lights, when the Schumacher XM1-5 will do the same, for a $20. bill?
And I hear you thinking, &quot;But that $99. unit includes a desulfating stage whereas the $20. Schumacher does not&quot;.
Let me clear that up as well.
To date, Dec 2015, no consumer grade charger/maintainer is sold that can desulfate 100% of batteries, 100% of the time. If such a charger did exist for only $99., every other manufacturer would be out of business in a heartbeat.

My battery wasn't being charged because of corroded terminals. The battery fully died that I couldn't even start the car, not even get dashboard lights on.

I cleaned the battery , took it out, changed the terminals in the car, and used this charger to charge my flat battery. At first the light on the charger went green right away, so I disconnected it and connected it again as I knew the battery was fully discharged. Then the charger turned the charging led on so I knew it was doing the JOb. 36h later the charger turned green.

I installed the battery, the car started fine and the battery is working just like new! (I knew the battery was in good shape as the dealer checked it a week before all this happen)

Charged dead battery

I needed a battery float charger that would maintain my dual battery set for my trailer
winch  and not overcharge causing the water to boil out. Works perfectly. This is a
maintainer, not a actual battery charger per say. This will bring up a small motorcycle battery that died but no more. My amp meter shows a output of 1.46 amps max.  However just to see what it would do on car battery, I ran down my 650 CCA  battery in my van by leaving  the lights on and put this little unit on it.  It took almost 9 days to bring it back to full charge. My commercial unit 2-20-40-60 with 250 amp start recharged in 1 day.  This unit maintains fully charged batteries nicely and  you should get at least a 10 amp or larger charger for your main recharging needs.
