This unit offers 2200+ streaming channels.

Simple question, COMPLEX answer. Yes you can get SOME cable channels IF YOU PAY FOR THEM using SLING TV service. As for TV shows you can get some but not all on HULU PLUS which requires a subscription or on several network Roku channels including Fox, CBS, etc. These network channels are ON DEMAND and are NEVER live feeds. There are requirements to see all episodes on demand. I am not going to detail 2000 PLUS channels, but instead point you to ROKUGUIDE DOT COM so you can explore their lists of public and private Roku channels. ROKUGUIDE DOT COM frankly is a better Roku channel information source than the official site at ROKU DOT COM. I do NOT consider Roku a replacement for cable, satellite or live local TV stations YET but it sure has improved in the 5 years I&#39;ve been a Roku user. I have a Roku on EVERY TV, I give them as gifts, I have a SPARE in case one breaks. Roku completely revolutionized the way I watch TV.

I have Time Warner Cable and a Roku Stick. I&#39;ve downloaded the TWC app and using their modem I can watch every channel that I subscribe to. Not bad.

Wr get both. We get our regular cable channels on HDMI 2 and our useless Roku on HDMI 1

Because Walmart owns Vudu. Roku makes them that way for Walmart.

ALSO if you notice the one on this page is the 4230RW not the 4230R. The W at the end means it is the Walmart model with the Vudu button. Walmart owns Vudu.

you can add the Hulu shortcut using the arrow at the top right hand side of the shortcut window. There are loads of &quot;channels&quot; you can add to your main short cut window and you can put them in any order you like.

Why does the most updated one on amazon (4230R) have a hulu short cut button, but walmart one does not, instead vudu...? I want hulu short cut.

Yes.  If you don&#39;t have high speed internet, this product will not work for you.

You either need to have your own internet service, or receive a very good Wi-Fi signal from one of your neighbors.  And, I&#39;m not too sure your neighbors would appreciate your using their Wi-Fi for downloading TV programs.

Fantastic

....to cutting the satellite dish cord. Now I can watch what I want - when I want it - at roughly 1/10th the cost of basic satellite (which I finally ditched after 15 years of price increases). Roku has a HUGE variety of available streaming programs and we are currently enjoying Netflix, Amazon Prime, Curiosity Stream and Acorn on a regular basis - other programs, less frequently.  The Roku menu is simple & easy to understand as well a operate. No trouble at all to install and get things up and running.  Thank you Roku for this excellent service and alternative to satellite!!!

The Perfect Answer.....

I really like the Roku 3. Set up was extremely easy, as is usual of all Roku products, it even had all my apps already set up when I signed in. It has a great added feature, being able to listen to my favorite shows and new movies with earbuds without disturbing my sleeping husband. All I had to do is plug in the earbuds to the remote. That's it! Seriously, easy as 1-2-3. Whether you're good with electronics or not very little, this is the machine for you.

Fast, works great with online TV services. I chose it over the newer Roku 4 because I didn't want a fan on the unit. Fans eventually get gummed up or wear out. There doesn't seem to be a heat problem at all with the Roku 3. Highly recommend this one.

Great Streaming Player

I have no regret of cutting the cable with the satellite company.  I am able to see many of the same channels for half the price.  Learning to navigate the roku channels is a learning process but not difficult just different.  I am very pleased with my purchase.

Easy install, voice activated search, and loads of free channels as well as low cost paid options make this a perfect choice for me.  With the roku and the sling network, I cut my $200 dollar a month cable bill in half and still get all my favorite channels plus Eipix, TMC, AMC, and Cinemax.

I purchased the Roku 3 a few weeks ago from Walmart. I have been putting off doing my review because I haven’t had the time to see all of the things that the Roku 3 can do. I am not technologically savvy so it takes me longer to figure out things than people who use a lot of the new things available. To give you a little insight, I still use a flip phone. I purchased the Roku 3 after reading and comparing the reviews on both Walmart.com and Roku’s website. I looked at the pros and cons of the different Roku’s that are available. My main reason for purchasing it was for us to stream in some movies from one of the paid streaming services. My television is about 4 years old so it is not a “smart t.v”. The Roku 3 came with simple instructions. I purchased an HDMI cable to so called hard wire it to my t.v. That is a cable that plugs into the back of my t.v. then onto the Roku 3 box. So the first thing you need to make sure is that your t.v. has the HDMI plug in’s in the back, which most newer t.v.s do. You also need to have WIFI internet available so your Roku gets the signal from your internet service, unless your internet connection is in the same room as your t.v., then you could just “hard wire it to your computer with an HDMI cable”. I have a medium speed and it seems to work just fine for my Roku. You then register your Roku with Roku. Then you turn it on. If you have a paid subscription to one of the streaming services you enter that in as well and you’re ready to go. It actually was pretty easy to set up and get going. We chose to go this route as we do not always have a lot of time to watch t.v. and/or movies and having a streaming service allows us to have fun things to watch without breaking the bank. We happen to use Netflix and it is working great on our t.v. The Roku 3 comes with a controller that easily finds what you are looking for. When we started it up, I had forgotten about the voice commands and we laughed when we saw our conversation come across the t.v. as Roku tried to find what we were looking for. If you are looking for a particular movie and say the name it will pull up all the ones that it finds, however, it brings all of them up from all the services that it has so you have to be specific in the one you want. Roku also offers a number of free streaming services, but to be honest I have not tried them yet. (Not enough time lately). You can also use the Roku with your cable subscription and it offers extra shows/channels for them (some you get for free, some you have to pay for). Roku also sends you informational emails to let you know what is all offered and how to use it. This really is something that when I have some time that I want to look into. As I had said in the beginning, we had only been looking for a good way to stream Netflix. With the Roku 3 we got that and a lot more that we will look into. I also like the fact that Roku is treating us like real people and sending out information to make our t.v. watching as enjoyable as possible. I really think that this is a great product and easy enough for all generations to use and enjoy.
