Product exceeds expectations

I bought this antenna because my financial situation is very tight and i would rather spend my money in other places. I specifically bought it to watch football on Sundays. I have to say I was surprised at how well it works. I had NO problems setting it up. It took about 5min. It found the signal right away. It picked up 30 channels right off the bat. All of the main channels came up ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, MY 20 etc. There are plenty of faith based channels to. All in al the product does exactly what it advertises. I live in Nashville TN. Its sitting by my window.

I canceled cable because I am tired of the high cost when all I watch are a handful of channels. I went to Radio shack and they tried to sell me a Antenna that cost $56.00. I got on line and looked at what Walmart had to offer and bought this for $21.00 and hooked it up and I got great reception and over 40 channels. I am happy and no more high cable bills to pay. Kim

  • If your TV only has an analog tuner, you need a converter box with ANY antenna. If you have a digital tuner, you don't need a converter box with any antenna. It is ENTIRELY dependent on the TV, not the antenna. ALL new TVs made for sale in the US since 2007 have digital tuners. MOST new TVs made for sale in the US since 2004 have digital tuners.

  • Only if you have a analog TV.

  • Yes, unless you only want to receive analog signals, which are pretty rare these days. With my antenna, I can receive about 69 digital stations and 1 analog station.

  • If your TV is older with only an analog receiver then you still need a digital converter box (to pick up the digital signal from this antenna, and convert it to analog for the TV.) If your TV has a digital tuner, then this antenna will send the digital signals right to it and no converter box is needed. The nice thing about Walmart is they accept returned items. I say try it; if it does not work for any reason then take it back for a refund.

  • It depends. If you have a late model FLAT SCREEN DIGITAL TV, It will pull digital programs out of thin air. It will not convert a regular TV (older type) to accept digital signals. You have to have a CONVERTER BOX for that.

right now, I have the coax going from the DVD player to the tv, in the "antenna in". where would I put this and still have the DVD player included?
by Bigkid1957 6/5/2012
  • Are you sure you have coax cable from the dvd player to the tv? Depending on the dvd player ther are probably other outputs. Use the rcs type plugs (yellow red and white from the dvd player to the tv. Newer dvd players use a single hdmi cable..

  • Call the TV manufacturer or consult your owners manual. Most manuals are available online.

  • I don't know what kind of CABLEBOX you have. The DISH Network BOX has an outlet on the back panel just for your situation. I am not sure how the CABLE CO. boxes are wired. Wal Mart or Radio Shack sell siamised connectors or SPLITTERS just for that purpose.

  • The input of the DVD player is where you would hook up the antenna
    by Gman9700512/17/2012
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
  • Good question, as there's no input on the unit, so you cannot hook a DVD or Video recorder to your TV unless you purchase a splitter.

  • You need to add a coaxial splitter/combiner (lookup Channel Plus 4 Way Splitter/Combiner in search, they're about $5), you connect your DVD to one in, the attenna to another in, and the out to the TV, also you can check if your DVD has an antenna in, and attach it to that if available (there's also adapters available to connect coaxial to pole type (two screws), these are somewhat hard to find now, but sometimes can be found at WM, or that shack that sells radios

I plugged the antenna cable into my TV and don't know how to get started. Does anybody know how? Help. Thank you so much.
by JR 1/6/2013
  • plug the cable like antenna into the cable connect of your TV and place the other end of flat antenna somewhere higher than the TV to where you get the best picture. You may have to move it around a few times to get your best TV picture.

  • Turn on your TV, make sure it's on the correct input (antenna), and you should be able to change channels. If that doesn't work, the TV might have a setup function to find the channels - this would be in the menu somewhere. If it still doesn't work, you might be too far away from the broadcasting stations.

  • Assuming your tv has a digital tuner, just go to a menu setting and have the tv search for channels.

  • You must do a channel scan. Attach the antennae and then go to your tv's menu screen select TV (not cable) then do a channel scan. It will find every digital broadcast channel in your area.

  • If you're that perplexed you might want to ask a friend for help, because it's difficult to explain without knowing what setup you're starting with. If your TV is more than 5 yrs old, you'll probably need a *digital converter box* to receive the new digital broadcasts. (This is why many people buying these antennas say they "got nothing," because they're using them on an older TV without the necessary converter box.) So assuming you have one, those converter boxes always have their own remotes and setup process. After hooking up this RCA antenna to your converter box, go to the Main Menu to find "Programming" or "Channel setup." That will scan thru all the signals the new antenna is receiving, should identify and save them on your Channel list. You can then use the "Favorites" or "Channel List" to bypass the stations you don't want the TV to stop on like shopping, foreign languages, etc. If you're sure no converter box is required and are hooking up directly to the TV, you shouldn't have to do anything more than change the channels. First make sure you've switched the TV's input to receive the digital broadcasts (usually it's just "TV" itself.) That should be the same type button/function that lets you switch from 'Cable' to the DVD player, for example. Once you've switched that input, use your TV's remote to scan the channels and see what you're picking up. (Channel 03 will only be dead air.) As above, pick the ones you want the channel changer to stop on and delete those you don't want.

  • I had the same problem with this JR. I figured out to go into the TV Menu by way of the remote and do a new "Scan for Channels". About 49 digital channels came up. Then I had to figure out how to use the menu to "skip over" half of them when I hit the + or - channel button. I was not interested in those channels. I'll bet you figured this out already, but just in case...
