It has a heavy duty plastic gear where the grinder attaches to the machine. I'm not sure what the inside gears are made of. Everything else is made of stainless steel including the grinder blade, hopper and the auger.

Plastic. That is a draw back. But it held up for 120 lbs. of deerburger and sausage. Easy to clean up.

Chunky plastic, but have held up well for me so far. I looked for metal geared grinder and they all seem to be on the high end, more expensive models. For meat with little tendon in it, this grinder works great.

There is a reason some of these machines have plastic &quot;drive&quot; gears. The design is to allow the drive gear to break to prevent damage to the more expensive main gear and/or the motor.
Similiar to an outboard engine propeller. The propeller has a internal hub which is designed to break when you hit something with the prop. If the hub didn&#39;t break you could break or bend your ss prop ($400+), break the prop shaft ($200+), drive shaft ($400+) and/or the gears in the lower unit ($200+). Get the idea now? It prevents damage to the more expensive parts. Many people know this,... normally the price of parts in a machine will cost you more than what you paid for the entire unit! Someone pointed out the plastic drive gear is about $14, and I can guess the price of the main gears are probably &quot;at least&quot; half the price of a whole new unit.

Yes, it's ready to go! It has a spare plastic auger gear (the only plastic internal part). I'm sure you can go to Prago Weston (or just Weston) online to buy parts.

The blade is stainless steel and the housing is aluminum. the gear attachment that drives the blade is plastic where it connects to the motor so you just have to be careful not to let it get too hot. IT is a light duty grinder but works great even for larger projects

The auger, burrs, and knife are metal, it can't last for ever but you can order replacement parts, but the one I have has already paid for itself by grinding pork butt, beef tips, making my own ground beef and Pork. It is very handy, it will also grind pears, apples, carrots, and much more.

Any liquid goes out the same end as what you put in. The blades are steel.

excellent machine, easy to clean, used several times as i like to know what is in my meat. Made burger meat, game meat all toether about  10 pounds. That left me with those good fresh bones to make broth with and wow all front a meat grinder. ONE THING i wish they had offered to include a can of silicone spray food grade. Got some and it is great too. Use this grinder every week.  100% better than my meat grinder that goes on my  mixer. cannot say enough good things about it.

Weston Meat Grinder 575 watts

I ground about 100lbs of meat on this the first day i had it and it took it all like a champ. IT did get a little hot after about 30 min of use but i expected it to and i just let it rest for about 10 min and went back to it. It is ideal for home use. It is not the most powerful grinder i have seen but it cant be beat for the money. I was not impressed with the plastic exterior and it doesn't appear to be very durable, i don't think it would make it through a fall to the floor from the counter but so far so good. When i picked up the box it was so light that i had to check inside to make sure the box actually had something in it. I was skeptical but when i got it home and started it up it easily ground everything i fed it. I would buy it again and would surely recommend this to any one.

My Wife bought it for me, and i Love it. I use it for making Venison Sausage, and as fast as I can put the venison in, it's ground up perfectly . It grinds so fast It is almost not fun for all the prep cutting that you do first. I love it and recommend it wholeheartedly. The price I believe is very reasonable and it's worth it.

This grinder is what I've been looking for. I had a previous grinder that was junk and I took it back to the store. This grinder has three different stages of grinding. The meat comes out just like you bought it at the grocery store. I'm very pleased! I would recommend this grinder to a friend.
