Yes and yes. I'd leave the turbine off. It will add to the weight of the handle and bump into things when sweeping under things.

Does this vacuum include the pet turbine brush which I believe is actually stored on the vacuum wand/handle?

I put it on the scale for you Connie. It weighs 14.4 pounds. That is just the canister and does not include the vacuum foot or hose.

It is heavy. Probably closer to 25 lbs. But I don't pick it up much (I am 70.). It moves nicely on it's big wheels.

Yes it comes with one in the vacuum and a 2 pack so you start out with 3 bags.

Probably not...the suction is amazing, have hard time with suction even on floors. Use floor option and open suction valve to vacuum bathroom rugs

Works very well on my new and very thick carpet, but its not shag. Has various height adjustments, all done by your toe so you don't have to bend to do it. Also has suction control on the wand. Between these, you should be able to get it cleaned.

The instructions suggest running on extra low pile for all but shag and there are 3 settings above extra low so you will probably be okay.

The power head is adjustable for just about every carpet height. The vac has plenty of suction power.
