I am a professional Chef and work with the large commercial chocolate fountains for special events. This works just as well but easier to work with due to size. Be prepared with back up chocolate!

We got this to use with our grandkids when they visited at Christmas. We had a BLAST with it! We used half milk chocolate chips and half cocoa flavor Wilton candy melts, and that's all--no oil, etc. We melted the chocolates in the microwave while the fountain was pre-heating and then poured it in. The mixture was a little lumpy but that didn't even matter. The fountain worked immediately and correctly, maybe a little loud but not too bad. Our grands (7 in all) range in age from 10 to 2 and they were amazed(there had been much discussion about how exactly the thing would work). We dipped fruit (banana chunks, fresh cherries, blueberries, apple slices), cake, potato chips, pretzels, forks, spoons, and fingers. At one point a grandson confided he wanted to dip his clothes in it, LOL! Cleanup was no problem--we took the machine apart and just licked it clean, washed it the next day with soap and water. We give it 18 thumbs up! (Grandad, Grandma, and 7 grandkids)

    • The chocolate should be melted before added to the unit since some reviewers have said their units did not get very warm.

    • according to the directions - choc should be premelted and thinned - the unit should be preheated - then the holy marriage can take place between fountain and choc.

    • You have to melt the chocolate before adding it to the fountain. The fountain does have a heater but only to keep the chocolate liquid. So use a double boiler or defrost on your microwave.

    • The heater is not powerful enoigh to melt the chocolate, but it only takes a minute or so to melt it in the microwave.

    • you have to premelt the chips in the microwave for 2 minutes and then pour it into the base and then the rotor feeds it up thru the middle and flows down the sides. You cant add the whole chips as they would get stuck it the rotor-feed

    • The heat position just heats up the machine. The heat motor position keeps the chocolate heated as well as runs the motor. You will need to heat the machine first, then add the chocolate and change the dial to the heat motor position.

    • The heat button just heats the chocolate warming plate in the base of the fountain bowl. The heat & motor button heats the warming plate and the auger type device which moves the melted chocolate up the fountain.

    • The heat position just keeps the chocolate warm and the heat motor position actually makes the chocolate move through the fountain.

    • The heat position is like preheating the oven-- It gets the machine warm enough to keep the chocolate from cooling. The heat motor position engages the pump and keeps the chocolate flowing and warm.

    • The hat position iit's only for heating before you add the melted chocolate ( you have to melt it before in a microwave or slow cooker) or after you finish serving, but don't want the chocolate to harden, and the heat motor it's when you want the chocolate to go up the fountain and start falling...
