You have to melt it in the microwave or on the stove. We used the microwave method. The fountain just keeps it warm.

The chocolate needs to be premelted before it goes into the fountain. The fountain is not capable of melting it, and it would jam up the screw if it was not premelted.

you have to premelt the chips in the microwave for 2 minutes and then pour it into the base and then the rotor feeds it up thru the middle and flows down the sides. You cant add the whole chips as they would get stuck it the rotor-feed

You have to melt the chocolate before adding it to the fountain. The fountain does have a heater but only to keep the chocolate liquid. So use a double boiler or defrost on your microwave.

I had better luck when I melted the chocolate before pouring it in the fountain.

according to the directions - choc should be premelted and thinned - the unit should be preheated - then the holy marriage can take place between fountain and choc.

The chocolate should be melted before added to the unit since some reviewers have said their units did not get very warm.

I've read that it is BEST to pre-heat/melt the chocolate then pour the melted chocolate into your fountain. The fountain mainly maintains the fondue's liquid-like consistency.

The heater is not powerful enoigh to melt the chocolate, but it only takes a minute or so to melt it in the microwave.
