The AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens from Nikon is a versatile zoom lens with wide-angle to telephoto perspectives and VR image stabilization for reduction of the blur caused by camera shake. It's ideal as an everyday lens with a compact design, flexible focal range and fast autofocus. And, it affords superior close focusing with a minimum focus distance of 1.25' from every focal length. Designed for FX format DSLRs it is also compatible with DX-format cameras on which it provides the 35mm focal length equivalence of 36-127.5mm. Reliable, fast and near-silent auto focus is afforded by the Silent Wave Motor and internal focus system in which only the internal lens groups shift during focus maintaining the compact length of the lens. The M/A Switch mode enables immediate manual focus override for precise critical focus when needed. In addition to the obvious advantages this versatile lens provides, it also employs a 7-blade rounded diaphragm, three aspherical lens elements and one extra-low dispersion ED element. The AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm is capable of shooting as close as 1.25 feet from your subject. Which is quite good. However, Nikon offers a line of Micro-NIKKOR lenses. These lenses are made, specifically for Micro Photography. Please check out WalMart's website for more information on these lenses.

Pros: Very effective auto-focus with smooth manual override.Very sharp imagery across the board.Very versatile framing from any position, any distance.Size and weight are unnoticeable and insignificant.

Cons: Size and weight ARE intimidating when first picked up and mounted on camera.Lens shadowing with Pop-up when zoomed.

Other thoughts: This lens is incredible. Find a subject, frame it, focus and shoot. I have found literally nothing to complain about and nothing this lens can't do. I go on lengthy walk-a-bouts and don't notice or think about it hanging off the front of my camera, just point-n-shoot. If you are a serious enthusiast who believes in a versatile quality tool that will serve any need, just give it a try. I use a Nikon D5100 and I'm an old timer to photography. I found it difficult to justify a lens that cost twice as much as the body. But, in the last few weeks of using it, the lens has proved worth every dollar.

Most impressively useable All-N-One zoom lens.

This is a quality product.  Focuses quickly and silently.  Image quality and sharpness are excellent.  The lens is not to big and heavy and easy to use.  The zoom range is great for general photography.  It is a great fit for my D610.

Pros: Love this lens! Works with my entry level D3100 to make both close up and zoom pictures look like they were taken by a professional. It's heavy, but I only need to carry the one lens for everyday use. Takes awesome close ups and action shots of kids playing sports from afar. The uv lens cover is a must-large lens makes for more surface area to scratch! Great price with bonus gifts and shipping was fast.

Cons: Heavy, but so are two lenses and a bag.

Pros: All In One No Changing, Takes great photos, Long distance

Cons: It's heavy

Other thoughts: I use this lens for every thing. I was tired of having to switch lens for different photos. This one does long distance and close up. The only thing is that it is very heavy, but most high end lens are heavy.

Pros: Improved Vr, Maximum Focal Length, Little Or No Zoom Creep, Relatively fast

Cons: Price, a bit heavy

Other thoughts: Nice improvement over the 18 - 200 mm zoom. Heavier, but not unwieldy. No loss in lens speed from the 18 - 200 mm zoom. The VR feature helps keep a sharp image at the maximum focal length. If you can only have one lens, this is the one to have.

The Latest Best Nikon Zoom Lens.

Pros: Obviously works with my d750. Just got both of them and I'm still experimenting with both. Wasn't thrilled with outdoor shots in very bright sunshine, but it's probably operator fault and not the lens.
