Due to my experience with some good and other not-so-good protein mixes, I was almost hesitant to try one I have not tried before. But I decided to give it a try. I put the recommended two scoops of Phase8 Protein Milk Chocolate 2.5lb into my blender, and added two cups of skim milk. I started to mix it on a slow speed at first because I wasn't sure how well all that protein powder would mix with the milk. I shouldn't have been concerned because it mixed very smoothly so I switched the blender to the whip/liquefy setting. As it was mixing, I added four ice cubes for a cool drink. I blended it for about a minute. When I pulled the lid off my blender, I saw the drink, which looked smooth and creamy. It looked delicious! As I was pouring it into two glasses, one for me and one for my husband, it poured with a thick, almost milk-shake like consistency. It smelled of lovely chocolate and looked oh-so-good.

But how did it taste? As I (almost hesitantly) took a swallow, I was delighted with the smooth, delicious chocolatey flavor. Nothing else - only pure chocolate. It was simply wonderful. But then came the test of fire. I asked my husband's opinion as he was drinking the drink. He said, and I quote: "This is good. It's not at all gritty like some of the stuff you gave me. I like it" Actually, I didn't believe he said what I thought he said. He hates protein drinks and I practically forced him to drink this. So I asked him again. "So, did you really like it?" He said: "Yes, it didn't have any gritty taste but it tasted good." Wow! I thought it was very tasty, but my husband?? Ok, this is good stuff

But what are the benefits of this product? The claim is that it releases constant protein support to your body for up to 8 hours. So I was very self-conscience of how my body was acting during a normal day. I am not too much for strenuous exercise, but I was very active all that day. First thing I noticed was that I had energy to keep going. This was happening after only drinking one glass of the protein mix. I compared it to other mixes, and this one stayed much longer. It was amazing. This isn't an appetite control product, but I simply wasn't hungry most of the day. It's very filling and it seems to satisfy for many hours. True, I was really hungry later that night, but that only proved to me that the drink did fill me up for about six hours. The directions say that it can be drunk before bedtime.

The only thing you have to watch with this protein drink is to drink lots of other liquids like water or a low-calorie drink during the day. The directions say to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water.

I am planning to buy this again and I would highly recommend it to a friend. I already have, in fact.

Deliciousness - Love everythinng about this

Phase8 Protein Milk Chocolate is a whey protein concentrate. The flavor is pretty good and tastes quite smooth. It can not be compared to an ice cream chocolate shake, but for something I am consuming for health and to help build muscles, this will do the trick. Directions to make this Phase8 Protein Milk Chocolate drink is to mix 1 serving (1 scoop) with 8oz. of cold water or skim milk in a shaker cup or any other mixer of your choice. I personally prefer mixing it with milk because it tastes better to me, but of course you can try water. Some people like to mix it with cold water. If concerned with fat in milk, you can choose low fat milk. I use an electric blender because I find it a little difficult to mix in shaker bottles. Sometimes the protein powder gets stuck on the bottom or clumps up and has a hard time mixing with the liquid. Other directions on the label: Use between major meals and after exercise. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. For maximum results, consume 4 scoops daily for a minimum of 6 weeks. Every scoop of Phase8 Protein Milk Chocolate equals 1 serving which is 160 calories. It also gives you 26g of protein, 8g of carbs, and 1.5g of fat. This protein shake tastes good and I definitely see results, but of course you have to keep up with your work out routine as well.

Tastes good

I have tried a few other protein drinks and this is probably one of my favorite. I don't use this product to build muscle. I use it because I do not get my required amount of daily proteins in my diet. Which isn't good for your health. The flavor is Milk Chocolate and I was very impressed with the taste. It didn't taste gritty or powdery. You can mix it with water or milk but I preferred to mix it with almond milk. It has a nice smooth texture and actually does taste like milk chocolate. It has 26g of Protein from 6 different sources and according to the bottle it provides 8 hours of amino acid delivery. It has no fillers either which is good. I would recommend this MuscleTech Protein drink for anyone who needs the extra protein in their diet.

Better than most

Let's start out with the packaging, which I found surprising. After removing the plastic strip around the jar's lid, I had a terrible time getting the lid off. Holding the jar for stability isn't possible since the plastic covering (label, etc.) on the jar is not connected TO the jar so it just slips around and I couldn't get any resistance. Once I finally got the lid pried off (I had to pry it halfway before I could unscrew it) I found that the top of the jar was not sealed with anything so the protein powder was all over the underside of the lid. Putting the lid back on the jar caused lots of powder to fall onto the outside of the jar and on my counter.

I believe that gluing the label to the jar and sealing the top would easily solve these issues.

26 grams of protein is great, the flavor of this product is very good, I'd consider it better than most. The milk chocolate flavored powder is easily mixed and blended well in a capped bottle with no lumps. I used my small blender and it rinsed out and washed up very easily.

I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a protein enhancement product. The packaging issues wouldn't stop me from buying this product in the future.

Good product, packaging needs work

The Phase 8 milk chocolate protein shake is better than I expected. I have had other protein shakes before like whey protein and didn't like the taste or consistency. The phase 8 protein shake has the consistency of a milk shake, it is thick, not runny or watery at all, but it is not too thick either. I believe it is the right thickness for me. I simply followed the directions on the back and put of scoop of it into my blender bottle and then 8 oz of milk. You have the option of either having 8 oz of water or milk, I chose milk for more flavor. Then I shook up the mixture in my blender bottle and to my surprise it came out similar to a milk shake. I shook it up some more to see if it was because I didn't do it enough but it still was the same consistency, so I did like that. Now for the taste is reminds me of a chocolate milk shake, it is not the best milk shake in the world, but it actually has a good taste to it which is important when you want to drink this on a regular basis. Not too chocolatey. I have had Gatorade protein shakes and there's are very delicious, but the phase 8 is pretty decent and is a better price point for the amount you get and quality of product. So, overall this would be a great choice, and honestly I believe the taste is way better than whey protein shake. So, give it a try. I recommend using milk to get more of the milk shake taste. As for how it makes me feel after or before a work out. It seems as though it does give me some more energy which helps with burning more calories.

Like a Milk Shake

I have been using various products from Muscletech for many years, and it appears that they are leading the charge with changing the nutrient profiles of many protein supplements such as their new Mission 1 protein bars and this Phase 8 protein shake.

I chose the chocolate to try because I can always drink it "straight", or I can choose to add strawberries or blueberries if I so desire. Often times I forego the extra carbohydrate and am just looking for the protein intake post weight or cardio training. As always, I first go straight to the ingredient list. This product contains both protein concentrates and isolates, as well as micellar casein, which is supposed to a slower digesting protein. I never like to see maltodextrin in anything I consume, so that's a negative for me. I also don't like that it has carrageenan (thickener) in it, and oh boy, it has acesulfame and soy lecithin (emulsifier). From a ingredient profile perspective, it has too many negatives for me personally, but let's say they aren't negative for you. What about taste and sweetness?

Honestly, the shake tastes fantastic, and that's mixed with water! It would probably literally taste like a milk shake if I added it to coconut milk and threw it in a blender! It doesn't taste watered-down as many can, but it sort of has a thicker consistency, which is a pleasant surprise. One of my tests is to check on mixability, which means I like to throw 8oz of cold water and a scoop of protein in a shaker cup and shake it up. I always appreciate if the shake mixes well because that means it's more portable for me in that I can either put a scoop in a container or plastic ziploc, or take it pre-mixed in my shaker when I am on the road and need a snack. I appreciate that it actually tastes GOOD, not chalky, nor too sweet. It is Goldilocks "just right"!

One scoop of this Phase 8 protein contains a reasonable 160 calories, 8g of carbohydrate, 26g of protein and virtually no fat, which is fine, since I can add my own fat, such as MCT oil. I also find it interesting that it provides digestive enzymes of papain and amylase. Fifty grams is a reasonable amount, and it is extremely helpful for digestion to consume these particular enzymes. This protein shake can also be used as a supplement in between meals, as a post-workout recovery shake, or taken at night. It has the best of both worlds - a quick digesting whey protein, and a slower-digesting micellar casein protein.

All in all, I like the taste and consistency of this product, that it's not too sweet, and has great mixability, making it very portable for me. However, because I prefer to keep my sugar non-existent in my nutrition regimen, I do not like that it has maltodextrin. I also think carrageenen is a poor choice for a thickener, and while I don't mind sucralose - I disagree with the wide use of acesulfame when it comes to health. I also don't consume soy, so soy lecithin would be out for me as well. For these reasons, I am assigning 4 out of 5 stars. I might actually rate it lower if I were asked how "health-conscious" this product is, but the product label makes no claims about being the healthiest thing on the planet, so in good conscience, I can only knock off 1 star based my own personal views on nutrition and health.

Perfect sweetness, great mixability - delicious!

I've tried a lot of different protein powders over the years, and this is one of the few that I will definitely be trying again. The taste is really good with no funky aftertaste like some other powders. I did find it to be a little too sweet though, but that was easily fixed by adding more liquid to it. I mix mine with soy or almond milk, this makes it taste much better than it does with just water. It mixes up pretty well; however, I did still have some clumping. This seems to be a problem with most (if not all) protein powders, as I've yet to find one that didn't have some amount of clumps left after stirring. I like to throw the powder in a blender with some fruit and almond milk, this way it's smooth and I get some extra nutrients. With 26 grams of protein per heaping scoop, this is really a great value for the price. I make sure I drink a glass in the morning before work, this keeps me feeling full for several hours and also gives me the energy I need to get through the day. 

Good quality protein powder

Phase 8 provides high biological value and sustained released protein for 8 hours of amino acid delivery to your body. It contains 26 g of protein from 7 protein sources derived from high quality milk and are designed to digest at different rates giving your body a continuous flow of protein to build, repair, maintain and recover muscle. For scoops a day are recommended for maximum results. 1 scoop may be mixed with 8 ounces of either water or skim milk. I've tried with both water and milk and it tastes good either way. Very pleasing to the palate. Although I've not been using for the minimum of 6 weeks that is recommended, I am starting to feel more strength in my muscles. Phase 8 is helping me to maximize my workouts.

Tastes good.

I am actually a little confused. I chose a product that was pictured as being "Purely Inspired 100% plant based Protein nutritional shake", in a big white labeled container. As a vegetarian, I thought it might make a good supplement, to my no red meat diet. The written description said Phase8 Protein, but I believed they were the same product. They are not the same product. What I received is "Muscletech Performance Series Phase8 Protein", which seems to be a product for those who workout and wish to build muscle. It contains 26g of protein, from 7 sources, and 5g glutamine & precursor, along with 5.6g BCAAs (unfamiliar to me). It is a multi-phase 8-hour sustained release protein, amino acid delivery and states it increases muscle size and strength. It is to be taken between meals, post workout and before bed. It is 2.5 lbs of powder that comes in a HUGE container, with a black label. The container is only 3/4 full, so there really is no need for such an oversize container, as it only makes it less convenient for storage. I have no need for this type of "muscle building" product, but I have tried it. I think it tastes very good - smooth and with a nice chocolate flavor, not chalky. I add a banana, to it, and some malt, to make it more like a real shake (I also use whole milk). It serves as a nice meal supplement, for me - and it does contain protein, so I hope it is nutritionally beneficial, for me, as that is what I was wanted. I do notice that I feel less tired, since using it, during the day. For those reasons, I would recommend it, to others.

Nice, Smooth Chocolate Flavor

By Muscletech, this protein mix is supposed to do a lot for you. The problem I had was getting past the taste and the clumps. The container came literally ½ full yet was brand new in a fully sealed container, which at ½ full, why have such a large container? Perhaps its shrinks upon packaging but back to the horrible taste and heavy clumping. I do not have a fancy power drink mug with mixer for starters. I did however put my drink initially in a large pitcher and used a metal cooking whisk to mix the powder with water. I used hot boiling water out of preference. The large clumps dissipated after some effort however, there was still a consistency and texture that was not appealing in my mouth at all. The taste of the milk chocolate, this flavor was unappealing as well. It is hard to describe however, I simply didn't like it. It is true that being creative in the kitchen if you run into this problem like I have, you can find ways to blend this powder into other things. It is hard for me to recommend this as I can not stomach it. This product was shipped to me rather than the Organic Protein Powder I had originally ordered.
