Very nice, of course it hasn't been used yet, but soon. Our son had a Murray that has lasted years with little or no problems. My husband decided to go that route as well. The price was great, easy pick up from Walmart, brought it home and uncrated it and then the big smile. He really likes it. Not a big mower but big enough for our acre and will pull the small trailer around to pick up cuttings from all our trees and flowers. My husband is anxious to get on it and go, I will have to get the dinner bell out because I may not get him off of it. He was very glad to find a Murray, he just wasn't excited about all the fancy ones, this has everything you would need, a 42" cut, headlights it looks like it will be easy to handle. He is very pleased. .

I have been working on power equipment for 27 years in my own shop and I will have to say I am very impressed with Briggs and Stratton who now owns and makes Murray. Tractor right out of the crate was impressive. Started right up and mows like a champ. Easy assembly. Just installed the steering wheel and hooked up battery leads. Very well made tractor for the money. Walmart site to store is free and easy.

Real decent tractor especially for the price.

Murray Select 18.5 HP Riding Mower

There were no surprises with my purchase of my mower except the delivery. I did receive a phone call from the trucking company to arrange delivery to my home, I did ask what size truck would be used and was told it most likely would be a tractor trailer. I did inform him that anything past a 24' box truck wouldn't be able to navigate my driveway.I was a little surprised when the tractor trailer showed up to make the delivery.This wasn't Home Depot or Lowes delivery where its door to door and your items are unboxed and assembled for you and deliveries are usually at no charge.I had to accept delivery at the bottom of my driveway and uncrate the mower and assemble the seat and steering wheel to get it up to my home, but that being said I did get a quality mower at a reasonable price including the delivery charge.

Wonderful Mower

I've only used it twice so far, but it works great. I wish it could cut while going in reverse, but it may be a safety reason. It was a little larger then the specifications stated, but other then that it has been great.

Great riding mower for beginner

Has every thing that I was looking for with the exception of rear deck wheels which would keep from "scalping" when turning on a bank. Other than that little problem good mower.

Good mower for the money.

This is my first riding lawn mower. I did my home work and looked at Sears, Lowes and Home Depot. All of their mowers were more expensive and so was their warranty. I also learned that Troyblit bought out Murray. This riding lawn mower seems to be a good product for the price. I did purchase the 3 year extended warranty. Some of the problems I have had was the bumper dash that stuck on the inside of the cowling were put on with a light glue that did not hold. I had to use a stronger glue. The mower was wet from the rain and that head light cover got wet on the inside. I removed it and started drying it. The reflective piece is just a flimsy piece of stripping. I do not have a large yard to mow, but this hopefully help me with my bad back. I hope to have this riding lawn mower for a long time.

I must say, I really loved this mower. I loved the features, and I loved the way it mowed and drove. I really loved mow in reverse, since that's locked out of most mowers in this price range. However, it died on the 2nd time mowing. I had just finished the yard, and was driving back to where I park it, and it just....died. And would never do anything after that. Wouldn't turn over, wouldn't click, just nothing. I checked all the safety interlock switches, and everything seemed fine.  Since it had been marked down (all of $4 dollars) it wouldn't let get the service plan. So instead of going through all the loops of warranty service, and since it was only 2 weeks old, I decided to return it. I feared I may have had a lemon.  And didn't want to get stuck with it after the 30 day return period.

I regret it.  I had bought the last one, and at the time they were sold out online. All they had was the cheap one (I wanted hrydrostatic tranny) and much bigger and expensive ones.  So I ordered the "next step up" online. The red one with the pedal drive. It's ok, but the Select was much better. 

So even though I had a very bad experience with mine, I still recommend this one highly. In fact, even after all the trouble of getting the new one, putting it together, tearing down the crate, getting it off the pallet, I'm still tempted to return the new one and order another one of these. They seem to be back in stock.  

The only issue I had, (aside from it dying) was that it started cutting out unless I had the choke on, and set juuuuuust right once it was hot. However, I used some kinda old gas (couple months) so that COULD have been it. Funny thing is, my old MTD, with the B&S engine, would do the EXACT same thing. And it was a 2002 model. Replacing the plugs solved it most of the time. The Select also cut out when first started. The new one does that too. It's something with these B&S engines, there are tons of post about it one the web.  

On a side note, whatever was wrong seems easy to fix. They have it back out for sale on clearance. I don't know if someone there figured it out, or they had a shop work on it. But it's back for sale 7 days later. I'm tempted to trade back for it again, but I just have this feeling that one is going to be a lemon. I really should have worked on it more myself (I rebuild cars, so these are pretty easy) but I just didn't want to be out of my return period, and I didn't want to mess with warranty service. I didn't want to have to be tearing apart a brand new mower and working on it. If it had lasted longer, I would have just tracked down the problem myself. 

I'm sad this one didn't work out. But I have the 3 year plan on the new one, so I'm just going to keep it. (I think)  Once I bypass the mow in reverse lockout! LOL

I really loved this mower

Good thing this is no longer available.  It is a piece of crap!  1st year the spark advance had to be replacsd, second year the hydrostatic transmission went out.  Both instances were repaired under warranty.  Transmission now out again a month after warranty expired.  If you buy a Murray, get the extended warranty or you will pay!!!!!!!!
