The sites I have reviewed all sell the radios in pairs. You may purchase any number of pairs with or without the charging units. As long as you set the channels and the privacy codes the same, they will all communicate together in your 'network'.

bought these for my husband and I to use as he is housebound and mobility is limited. With these I can go outside to work in the yard or run a short errand or we can communicate throughout the house if he is in need of something. Also gives me piece of mind being in touch without the hassle of calling each other on the cell phone each time. He also goes out in his power chair and I have piece of mind that he can get in touch with me if he gets in trouble. They are very clear and so far we have been able to communicate a good distance. Yes, I would recommend these and the NOAA channel is an added plus. They were easy to set up and love the double charger and the feature that they can be recharged or use standard batteries.

Freedom and great convenience

This is my 9th or 10th set of Motorola Talkabout radios over the last 25 years and they have all performed exceptionally. I own a 20 acre campground, and have never encountered any problems contacting anyone else within that area, and all of my staff carry them. I cannot speak to how far it will transmit in 'Ideal' circumstances, put they perform fine in the hilly, tree covered area I use them in. They are well constructed and will hold up to a great deal of hard use. While the included battery pack will usually last for a 12 hour shift before needing recharging, I get my best results using rechargeable AA batteries (it uses 3) and will usually get approximately 48 hours on a set. While you may be tempted to go with a less expensive set of radios, make sure that they include an 'eliminator' or 'privacy' code feature, or you will be constantly competing with others for the airwaves. While I seldom use the VOX (voice operated transmission) anymore, I have used it sufficiently with headphones/ear piece and mouthpiece to confidently recommend them for people wanting hands free operation. The best value in FRS radios on the market.

Perfect radio for short/medium distances

These are arguably Motorola's best value radios. They have all the essential features but few of the extras. It's a great "Plain-Jain" FRS/GMRS radio that is capable of using AA batteries. This saves money in the long run as they are less expensive to use than AAA compatible radios. The NiHM rechargeables last about 1 day with regular use while standard alkaline AAs last about 3-4 days.

Good value

we bought about 20 of these over the last few months. For our downtown church location at Whitney Young High School and for our Hoffman Estates Campus. They are great for all the ministry's to use to communicate and great for our security and ushers to use.

I purchased this model with just a cool gift idea in mind for my sons, 7 and 2 to play around the house...it ended up being an even better idea than I planned! I find it is useful on our trips to the museums and shopping at Wal-mart ( for example) the older one clips one to his belt and I to my bag and we have a way to track each other in case we are separated! We also use it at the park while doing soccer drills, his Dad and I can guide while he is out in the field kicking and running around-- we have had them for under two weeks and are enjoying the purchase! I love the batteries are rechargacle and that there is a flashlight built into each hand piece.

Great gift for my 7 year old

Bought these for my 3 young boys ages 6,8,8..... For Christmas! They absolutely love them! I bought 2sets so I can have one on me while they are out playing! I live in your typical neighborhood with houses all around and have had no issues of at least a 1/4 mile range! Great Price here at Walmart also!

Great for kids

I purchased these for my Grandson's 9th birthday. They seem to be made very well and have a lot of features. Couldn't tell you about the distance, he will only use them around the house with his older brother.. He really likes the radios and said the weather band worked good. I would personally purchase these for myself also.

Nice Two way Radio

Wanted to replace my 7 plus year old radios as they are tired. These new radios are a little larger and bulkier to put in my shirt pocket.
Range is the same as my old 5 mile radios that I use in the field hunting and in the store shopping.
My old radios the AA batteries lasts a long time in days while in the field and shopping.
These new radios, rechargeable batteries, only last hours and I must carry spare batteries to ensure I can reach my base when afield and shopping.
I am thinking about going back to a smaller radio since the range is the similar and hopfully the batteries last longer.

Bulky Radio and low battery life

Radios work fine, but the batteries won't last very long. Followed directions regarding the rechargeable NiCad batteries charging technique. Won't last more than 3 hrs. of just being turned on (not even talking on radios). Took back and exchanged for new radios sets. Same thing. Called Motorola tech assist and they had no help or suggestions. I thought maybe I didn't know how to turn on the power saver function. I was told this unit doesn't have such a feature. I have owned a lot of 2 way radios in my times and none used battery power like this one does. I did install 3 AA alkaline batteries and it works much longer, but they aren't rechargeable and it will get costly. Wouldn't recommend this radio set to anyone. Motorola told me that this is a discontinued model.

Batteries Won't Hold A Charge

BOttom line, you get what you pay for. If you have to use this where it is even somewhat noisy expect that the audio will be very distorted when you increase the volume, The volume control should be called a distortion control. The charger battery contacts don't make very good connectiion. The charge LED will flicker, go dim and only show full brightness after you move the radio around a bit in the dock. I bought this because there were good reviews. I guess those reviewers never used a 2-way radio before so they had no basis for comparison. I'll give them to my grandkids so they can play with them until they break. I'll look at buying a real 2-way. Bottom Line: Buy these low cost redios where you can actually try them. It might cost more than online but you'll know what you're getting. And please buy them where you tried them, that retailer deserves your business becvause he has the products there for you to experience.
