The Midland 50-Channel GMRS Radios feature the standard 22 GMRS channels plus an additional 28 channels. The Midland FRS 36-mile radios, black, feature weather scan that finds the nearest NOAA broadcast to stay up to date with the latest weather and hazard information. In addition to weather announcements, the Midland 50-Channel GMRS Radios' all hazards alert means that the Midland GMRS radio will receive other emergency announcements such as child abduction (Amber Alert), nuclear power plant warnings, biological hazard, fire and landslide warnings. The whisper feature of the Midland 50-Channel GMRS Radios allows you to speak quietly and still be heard clearly by others, and you can use the Midland GMRS radio's SOS feature to send out a distress sound for emergency situations. The group call allows you to make "direct calls" to other people within the group without alerting the entire group.
Midland 50-Channel GMRS Radios feature a vibrating alert for silent notification, and nine-level E Vox for hands free operation. Additional features are 387 privacy codes, scan of the 50 channels, hi/med/low power settings, 10 call alerts, keypad lock and battery save circuit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TriumphSprintST Good Distance Used these on a motorcycle trip and they had good reception over a long distance straight line. That shrank to about a mile in the mountains around curves but in towns you could get a few miles apart before the reception started dropping off. The headsets were a different story and I will review them under the headset review. 09/09/2009
Rated 1 out of 5 by Jashmore Don't expect over 1 mile Got this shipped to my house for 97cents.I knew a 30-mile reception was out of the question but I thought for sure I could get 2 maybe 3 miles... I was terribly wrong. I was almost able to talk for 1/2 mile and that was even after making sure it was on "high power."However, people using this with little obstruction could possibly get better reception.I was very unimpressed to say the least and got my money back thanks to WalMart's excellent return policy. 01/01/2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by spud45 limited range These radios work as long as you do not beleive the advertised range. No radios in this classification will have the advertised range. These are comparable or maybe a little better than some. Most times and under most conditions you will not get more than a mile at best. If you understand this going in you will be satisfied. Has some good features such as whisper mode and the ability to recharge at home or in car. 03/02/2010
