Yes, the top is open. There is no cap included and no integrated valve. The narrowest part of the opening is 5/32" ID (just over 1/8"), which is larger than most, allowing for a decent amount of fluid to be dispensed. I use one for homemade syrup (the Mapeline recipe) and it works perfectly. Somebody else I know keeps dish soap in one at the kitchen sink. The pour spout is designed really well for drip-free operation. The rubber seal is good quality and has not hardened in the year+ that I've been using this bottle. Highly recommended.

Yes and no. It is somewhat airtight. But the rubber seal kept failing on me in both bottles I purchased.

Does the bottle allow the oil to be open to the air as opposed to an air tight bottle

I've had this bottle for a couple years, and I love it. I use it for olive oil, and it works beautifully. I have nothing negative to say about it. It is great quality; very strong, thick glass that is dishwasher safe. I do wash the spout by hand, however. If you want an easy to use bottle, that also looks great, then you should definitely purchase this bottle.

Wonderful Product

I love these bottles because I use them as a soap bottle. I fill the bottle with marbles on the bottom and then add soap. It is great for doing your dishes.

Oil Bottle

The spout became loose after removing it one time too refill. I purchased 2 and had the same results with both.

I would not purchase again...

This bottle is not worth the buy, shortly after using, the rubber seal does not seal at all, when I use it I have to hold the tip on otherwise it will come off and spill everywhere. When I first used it, there was a lot of drippage.

Do not buy, waste of money.

Do Not Buy

Bought it, then etched the OIL label on the side, took the stopper out to fill it and the metal and plastic stopper separated and won't go back together. Now I have a leaky mess. Better off doing what I ended up doing. Buy a wine bottle spout and get an empty wine bottle from someone and use that. Holds more too !

Cheap junk broke !

Works well with little drippage....until you've tipped it a certain number of times or had to refill it a few times. The rubber seal/spout suddenly stops holding and doesn't work properly anymore. Happened with both bottles I bought. I am NOT hard on them in any way.

rubber seal fails soon after buying

I wish I read the reviews for this product before purchasing. The rubber stopper is too small for the spout and does not seal properly, this causes the oil and vinegar to leak out while pouring. I would not recommend.
