<p>Add brightness to your room with the Mainstays 11" stick accent lamp base.  The simple yet stylish brushed steel base features a push on/off switch and uses one 40-watt incandescent bulb. Choose your own lampshade (sold separately) to complete the look of the lamp.</p>

Lamp shade sets on a screw spindle on top of the harp. Over that spindle is a gold tone fancy fitting to hold the shade down and the finial screws down on the spindle to hold lamp shade and fitting secure. There are sufficient instructions.

Just figured this out myself -- Here are the steps:

-Unscrew the light bulb (or make sure there's no bulb in the socket)
-Then, place the lampshade down over the light socket, (the ring in the center of the shade will fit right over the socket and stay put)
-Then, screw the bulb in over the lamp shade ring.
-Viola.

These lamps definitely should have come with instructions to save everyone the hassle of trial and error! :-)

The shade slips on right on top and a light bulb is then screwed in on top of that to secure the whole thing.

How do I attach a lampshade to this base? I see no way of attaching it.

Does this take a standard-base light bulb?

No, you cannot plug this product into a 220V socket. You may use an adapter. It is meant for a basic 100-127 V socket.

This is a lovely little lamp
Base. It is a little on the light side ( some weight at the base would make it better), but for the price and my purpose it was perfect!

A little small

I bought this at my local Walmart for $4.50 for my nightstand and its absolutely perfect for it. It's not too large or small, not too tall or short. Like the other reviewer said, it is a bit light. I think I would have preferred it to be weighted down a bit more but hopefully I won't be knocking into it very often.

I ended up getting a cute blue shade with a gold pattern for it and it looks sophisticated and modern. And the shade was only $4 so $8.50 for the entire thing is not a bad deal. I'm very satisfied with it.

For what you pay, and for what I need, these are OK. They are so lightweight that they seem to tip over very easily. They seem to need a little more weight in the base so they don't tip so easily. I don't know if it is the lamp itself or the new light bulbs but when they tip, if the bulb strikes anything, and not very hard, the bulbs go out. I am not able to change light bulbs in the ceiling due to back problems so have these small lamps all over the house, and they are very good for that purpose.

Good for the money, but too lightweight

I got this along with a pink shade for my daughter's desk. The lamp looks very pretty. However the base is very small and lightweight, you have to be very careful not to knock it down. I think it fits better as a small lamp on the nightstand or something, not a good student desk lamp.
