Not only is this Dutch Oven American made but It's far superior than other Imported cast iron on the market. This 5 quart oven is perfect for cooking a five pound whole chicken with potatoes, onions and carrots with a little bit of room to spare. The chicken will be falling of the bone when done and taste close to rotisserie chicken if seasoned right. Highly recommended.

I have many cast iron cooking products. I use the dutch oven for frying fish for large groups. I use it to fry my hush puppies as well. While it comes pre seasoned I always season it even more by rubbing it down inside and out with cooking oil and placeing it upside down in an oven at 350 degrees for an additional two hours before using the first time. The inside will become smoother and smoother with every use...Keep it lightly oiled all the time...it will last you a lifetime and help make you a fish fry chef in no time.

My parents have always had cast iron products and this last year I've been able to cook more and found that the dutch oven was the one thing lacking. The dutch oven is what I consider the original crock pot and I'm back to using that for my all day cooking. I don't know how I did without it and am glad it's back in my kitchen. You can't go wrong with this or any other cast iron product.

    • On mine it looks like you could remove it permanently or semi-permanently by cutting it off or bending the wire open with some vice grips. I haven't actually tried it though. . . .

    • It is not designed to be easily removed. With simple hand tools it could be if you wanted to - though I don't know why you would. They make a model without the bail handle.

    • Not easily, especially if you want to reattach. If you want to permanently remove, then a pair of pliers make quick work of it.

I like the handle only if it stands up away from the pot to prevent it from getting hot to handle.

    • The bail will rest higher on one side but the bail will move below the edge if moved to the other side. I guess you could balance it up in the center. The spiral handle helps keep it cool.

    • One directions handle folds down to the side of pot, other way handle stays up leaning back so top can be removed still.

    • One side the handle flops all the way over, while the other side it only flops partially over...The handle is metal and still gets hot...

    • It stays up but I don't handle the pot. If I am not mistaken it does get hot. Sorry

    • The handle stays at about a 30 degree angle in one position and lays flat when moved to the other side. So yes it "stands up away" if you want it to but since it is all metal I suspect it still gets hot in an oven maybe not so much on a stovetop burner.

    • The wire handle on mine flips over to about 90 degrees on one side (like in the photo) and and the other side stays up a little higher. For the cast iron handle on the lid I would use an oven mitt before touching.

    • the handle does go back and away from the top as shown or if moved forward it goes over to the side at the level of the top of the pot and it does not touch the side and is away from the pot
      by Hpenn3/12/2013
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • Yes it stands up at an angle. If you put it in the oven it will get hot anyway, but will lay down to the other side so it will fit.
