Rated 5 out of 5★ by A must have for steaks! This cast iron skillet can take high heat to sear steaks and then withstand 500 degree oven heat to finish cooking them. Also this skillet is great for cooking frittatas. It came seasoned but I did another seasoning by rubbing it with a thin film of vegetable shortening. Then bake in oven at 350 degrees for an hour. After seasoning, no matter how bad the mess, this skillet is easy to clean. As a suggestion to clean, while skillet is still warm, drop in about 1 tablespoon of salt. Using wadded up paper towels, scrub (tongs help if you have them) inside skillet to clean. Dump out cleanings and excess salt. I then rinse in with warm or hot clean water to wash out any residual matter. Then wipe out. To ensure no moisture is left, I then place skillet on a medium heat for a minute or so to burn off any remaining moisture. I store my cast iron stuff in the oven and leave them in there when baking or roasting other foods. Cast iron ware is superb! 09/15/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Last pan I'll ever buy Years ago I threw away my cast iron pans for the "non-stick" cookware brand. I have tried so many so called non-stick pans over the past 25 years, and nothing compares to cast iron. I spent and wasted hundreds of dollars of which I now regret. This brand of cast iron is great. Absolutely nothing sticks and clean up is so easy. There will be no going back to any non-stick brand of cookware. 06/07/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by There's no skillet like it!! It cooks food evenly and it holds all the flavor in. My grandmother and mother used nothing but iron cast skillets. They are the best to cook with!! 03/12/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by a+ Great bang for the buck! Cleans up well, comes pre-seasoned, what more can you ask for!?! 02/04/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Cast Iron Cooking is the best! Although it is very heavy, I still love cooking with a well seasoned cast iron pan!! No fear of aluminum poisoning, no Teflon flakes in my food, and doesn't stick like stainless steel does. Cast iron stays hot too!! So no need to worry about your food getting cold while waiting for everyone to come to the table. Most people are afraid of cast iron because they think you can't clean it with soap and water. But I clean mine after every use with soap and water. The trick is to put it back on the stove to get hot enough to dry out the water. This makes it so it won't rust. Then you can store it or reuse it as much as you like - it will always be clean and ready. Obviously, the more you use it, the better the pan gets and the less likely it will be that you will ever see it rust. I love my cast iron pots and pans!! (I even have a cast iron waffle iron) 05/13/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by My favorite pan EVER! I hesitated buying this because I'm am disabled and thought it would be too heavy but the extra handle takes care of that. I also have a glass top stove and people have said not to use cast iron and I disagree. It's fine as long as you don't move the pan around more than necessary. When I first got it I coated it with coconut oil (any oil will work) and let it sit for a few days. I then used a paper towel to remove any excess oil. My first dish was fried potatoes and onions and yes, some of the potato stuck to the pan but I turned the heat off, covered the pan and the moisture from the steam released the stuck potatoes after about 15 minutes and the potatoes were still nice and hot. Learn to use cast iron and you will forever love it like no other pan and I've had my share. I never use soap, I just let it soak and wash it with a soft cloth. Much healthier than non-stick pans and cook better than stainless steel. I use low heat and I now pan bake foods like cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Good eatin' for sure! 05/18/2013
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Great castiron pan This is my first cast iron pan. I am going to buy the 12 inch, the pot etc... When I received the pan, I rinsed it with hot water and very little detergent(the lodge website said you can do this when you first purchase but not anytime after). I reseasoned my pan inside and out with vegetable oil and baked it in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour and half. The pan is nonstick if you season it well. I love it! the pan is heavy so be careful when lifting. Overall very good. 10/23/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Alright pan Great iron cast skillet, only downfall I have to re-season the skillet after every use, otherwise food will stick in the pan during cooking. 05/16/2010
