The keyboard itself takes AA batteries and the console takes C batteries, but I found it cheaper to purchase the adapter for the console, it only cost me seven bucks, and I don't have to purchase batteries for the console.

The main system takes C's and the keyboard takes AA's.

No, I contacted Leap Frog to ask the same question - The answer is no, it has to be connected to the tv to work.

If your computer monitor has the hook ups that allow you to use it as a normal TV, yes.

Can this be used with a computer monitor?

It's suppose to turn off by it self when it becomes idle but I highly recommend either taking out the batteries or getting rechargeables because it sometimes take quite a while for this to happen.

How do you turn off the key board? The keyboard does not have a swith?

So my dad always buys my daughter, Zoe, educational toys instead of stuff she doesnt need and so since she turned 3 in August my dad thought this would be perfect! He got her the My First Computer for Christmas. We have played it everyday since we got it and Zoe is doing so good! She can wash her puppies, she is learning the arrow keys and is just figureing out where the abc's are at on a keyboard. My husband and I love it too! lol We are having to use the batteries in it for now but they have an adapter that plugs it in and you dont have to use batteries. I am online now lookin for it and cant find it. I HOPE WE GET IT SOON! I dont want her batteries die, We dont have no more!

BUT OVER ALL THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT! I HOPE MORE KIDS ARE ENJOYING IT LIKE ZOE!

i bought this for my 3 year old on her birthday. it's all she'll play with now. in less than a week, she's on level 2 on her games. my husband is out now buying her more games. she is learning matching, up, down, side to side, to use a mouse. this has been so challenging for her and that's just what she needed. i would recommend this toy for any child.

very nice toy

I got this for my 3 year old daughter and sister for Christmas. They love it. My daughter plays it almost all day. I bought her the Dora game and shes has mastered level 1 & 2. I just told her dad we have to get her a new game. This has to be hands down the best educational game I ever purchase.

I bought this for Christmas for my 3 1/2 yr old son. That was the first thing we sat up and he played it for hours. He loved it just the way it came. He loves the Deigo game also. Just last night 12-29 my 2 year old daughter jumped in and started playing it. Now there is a major fight of who is going to play. She can play the reg. games it comes with. I also got an adaptor for it. It is a zippity charger that goes with the frist computer.

GREAT PRODUCT!!!

My daughter had used this prior at a friends house and fell in love with it. She now has it and uses it all the time. I got her the Dora game and she is doing very well. The games that come with the unit are great as well. She is learning how to use the keyboard and mouse very quickly. We are very happy with this product.

My 3 year old loves it!

Before buying this product we read the reviews on the internet and still chose to buy it. It is a very educational game and my twin girls love it. However, the mouse often gets stuck and the girls get very frustrated. This is definitely a manufacture problem. Overall it is an excellent product - just brace yourself for occasional disappointment.

Excellent But...

My dad first bought this for my 3 year old for Christmas, and I ended up using the wrong adapter with it, and burnt the motor up. So since I had 3 games for it, I decided to buy a new one. I have a daycare, and my kids love it! They love playing the Dora and Diego games, and it teaches them counting, numbers, shapes, letters, and eye hand coordination with the mouse and screen. The only downside is that you have to make sure the keyboard is in line with the console, or else the game won't respond correctly. otherwise great product!

Great educational toy!

My daughter received this for her 3rd birthday. We have been using it for about a week. This is a great tool/toy to help a young child get started using a mouse and keyboard. Over the last week she has improved considerably - just keep in mind that the hand/eye coordination of a 3 year old isn't that great! It is kind of hard to watch at first until they get the hang of it. Once they start to understand what is happening and what they are supposed to do, it gets easier! When my daughter finishes a task her excitement is everything! SHE LOVES IT! I would recommend this to any parent/caregiver. I have read the other complaints about battery usage - oh, well - in my opinion, it is worth it!

A Great Beginner Tool

I'm kind of torn on how to rate this item. On one hand I really like it my 4yr old daughter loves it, but on the other I'm un happy with it. She has owned this for a week and we have already replaced the batteries 3 times already. It says the mouse will go to sleep after a period of non use, but it keeps running for sometime. It can get a little $$$$ replacing the batteries that often. So on one hand it is very educational and on the other can be annoying and $$$$. Hope this helps someone else.

Like but don't love!!!

I bought this for my daughter at Christmas and she loves it. But like many children she put lotion on all the colored parts and the paint came off and needless to say it is all over her wall and now she can't use the mouse pad because it sticks. If you touch it you get the paint on you. Leapfrog won't do anything about this because its no longer under warranty. The game still works it just leaves paint on you and the mouse just sticks to the mouse pad. I like the game but will no longer buy leapfrog products if the paint will come off their toys.

We used this toy three times and then it broke. The mouse is frozen and is not recognized by the machine. We contacted customer service and there are no replacement mice available. We also purchased several games so our total investment is near $100 for a toy that worked three times. Very poorly made. In fact, I think they should be pulled from the shelves until the problem can be rectified. I'm considering sending it all back to Leap Frog with a letter so they can see the junk they sold. I've usually been happy with their products, but this one is a lemon.
