No, it isn't battery-operated. It has a plug with a thumb switch.

this item unfortunately is not battery operated. it is electrical and if it were to be battery operated it would take a lot of AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt. or bigger batteries to operate it for an 8 to 10 hour night of operation. even on battery back up. unless the item was a bit smaller in size and used a 4 watt light bulb.

mine did yours should have too. keep your instruction booklet, because it will tell you what type of replacement bulb it takes. bulbs can be purchased at walmart or any hardware store.

I would avoid having a lava lamp shipped because of the awful way packages are handled. A sharply shaken lava lamp will cloud the water permanently. Mine arrived that way and ended up in the dumpster.

This option should show up upon checkout. You should have the option of "ship to home" or "site to store". It's the last page/step before you complete the transaction.

some where on the order sheet there was a place to check send to local store. at least on my order form there was. but i opted to have it sent to my house. shipping wasn't that much more.

When you sign into your account at the top of the page there is a button that says "Store Finder". Type in your zip code then when you have found the closest Walmart check the box to the left of the page that says "Pickup options" "Site to Store pickup". I hope that helps :)

Like most of the Lava Lamps in our collection, this one is awesome and was a must have, at least for us, as it will perfectly color match the newly painted bedroom it will be in, which has 3 light blue walls, 1 dark blue wall with metallic silver stars and silver trim! 
How perfect is THAT??? :)

One without flash to show off the liquid, one with flash to show the lamps better. 
The lamps were turned on for at least 5 hours in both photos.
The Red one is about 5 or 6 years old, the Rainbow one just arrived with the Silver base with Blue liquid/Purple bubbles one early this morning .
This lamp took around 3 hours to start flowing good, the rainbow one took about 4 hours, but as they age some do start flowing much sooner.

Perfect color match and looks cool!

i sleep in the basement of a house, and it tends to get very dark at night, my eye sight isn't the best anymore and i can see somewhat with out my glasses. but to avoid stubbing my toes or knocking into things with my feet or legs i needed a night light that was both appealing and reminiscent of an era i grew up in. the night light that i have is about 20 years old, still works but i wanted a newer one. i retired the old one for a while, and bought 2 new ones to cover the areas that i needed a soft light to aid me to see in the dark while not affecting my sleep. the purple/blue is dark enough to see by and has enough light to see by that when i get up for those trips to the kitchen or bathroom i don't bump my feet or legs or stub my toes. the lava lamps are serving their purpose

for those people (adults) who like nostalgia.

The product is great. Everyone like it. The only problem is that it came a little dirty. Almost as if some of the liquid had dripped onto the lava lamp during the production process. Besides that it works just as expected.

Product arrived as expected... a little dirty

I have always wanted one of these lamps ,and am glad i finally got one they are very relaxing to watch, especially when you have had a hard day and just want to lay back and relax, i was not however happy with the condition in which i received the lamp, the container in which the lamp was so amashed up on the bottom i was worried that the lamp was damaged, i'm happy to say that it was not, but that means that it was sent that way from the warehouse, they should be more careful with the products that they ship, who wants something that's damaged when they receive it !!!

Love the lamp

It is what I expected. It will be a gift so I haven't plugged it in. A 15yr old boy is decorating his own bedroom so I think he'll like this. Rim I ds me of the late 60's. I was worried it wouldn't make it in time for the holidays - it did. The box is torn, worn and a mess but no time to make an exchange. That is why only 3 stars.

Retro design

I was super excited for this lamp because it's two of my favorite colors. Unfortunately, the purple lava looks more like a brown/black unless it's touching the glass. Thinking of returning it and trying another color. :(

Purple is NOT Purple

I had this shipped to my 8 year old niece for her birthday and it came to her as a bag of broken glass and water. If your going to ship something liquid and breakable then put the appropriate packing material in the box to protect the merchandise!

Liquid inside the lava lamp should be clear blue as advertised, but instead is cloudy and difficult to see the purple "lava"

I knew nothing about the problem with cloudy lava lamps until I received mine today. I assembled and plugged it in - waited the 3 hours, and - The liquid is so cloudy you can barely see the wax bubbles! I did some research as to the cause - apparently shaking the lamp sharply causes the cloudiness, and the cloudiness is permanent. I am returning this to Walmart tomorrow. I blame the shipper for this.
