The pot is 12-1/2" tall inside; with the steam tray right side up it's 10-1/4" from the top so 2-1/4" under it. If you turn the tray upside down it's 9-1/4" over & 3-1/4" under.

The tray sits low in the pot around 2.5 inches (where you see the band on the pot). I think you would have no trouble steaming crabs. I put a 1/2 gallon jar on the tray for canning. It works great for that also, as I could cover the jar in water while it sat on the tray the water boiled but did not boil over.

If your crabs are smaller than lobsters, there is enough room under the steam tray. There is almost 2 3/4" between the bottom of the pan and the bottom of the steam tray.

There is roughly 4 inches between the bottom and the steamer tray, you can also flip the steamer tray upside down and insert it into the pot, giving you an additional 1/2&quot; for water. When I used it to steam tamales, I believe I put in about 2 quarts of water. You would have plenty of room for water for steaming crabs. :)

How much room is there for water under the steam tray when inserted?

I bought this for canning my 1/2 gallon jars, it works well. Not a heavy pot, but I also have gas cook top that's glass. It works. Yes it's flat on the bottom.

I have a glass stove top, is this pot flat bottom? I want to use it to do home canning.

Yes, you can put a quart size jar in this pot.

I haven&#39;t used this for canning but have experience with canning and believe this would be big enough and tall enough to use for canning quart jars. The dimensions are: 15&quot; diameter by 13&quot; tall.

Great, durable item easy to clean and light weight. It was used to cook barbacoa, great I love it!!

High quality pot

Perfect fit for a Mini WSM.  
Finally decided to build a mini smoker using a Weber Smokey Joe and this pot.  The Weber lid was a perfect fit for the top of the IMUSA pot.  The bottom fit well into the Weber bowl however I decided to use the IMUSA lid and remove the handle and attached it to the bottom of the pot.  The inset lip of the lid sits higher in the Weber bowl, actually right on the top lip of the bowl.   Great fit and it allows more room under the pot for charcoal.   I cut a hole thru the lid and the bottom of the pot.  Dropped in a Weber 7440 charcoal grate into the bottom of the pot after cutting the left and right sides off allowing it to clear the ridge in the pot for the steamer insert.   I am using a 12” terra cotta saucer on top of the charcoal grate.  The standard Smokey Joe cooking grate will sit on that steamer ridge.   Add 3 bolts 1/4 x 1/2 approx 4-5 inches down from the top to hold a 2nd cooking grate and I now have a 2 tiered smoker.  Also added a Weber 63029 thermometer just below the top grate height and a Weber 85037 grommet to run my wireless thermometer and BBQ gasket under the pot and inside the Weber lid to help seal. The gasket was not necessary but I wanted the tightest seal possible. 

So glad I did my research and took a chance on this IMUSA pot.  Some report the top can be a little too large and need modification to fit the Weber lid but I got lucky and mine fit like it was made to sit on the pot.  Definitely recommend if you have a Mini WSM project.

Awesome pot for Mini WSM build

The bottom of this (Chinese, not Columbian) steamer pot fits nicely into the Weber Smokey Joe kettle and is pretty stable on the cooking grate groove. It does NOT, however, fit into its own lid like the more expensive Visconia pot (Google "Building a Mini Weber Smokey Mountain in Texas"). But I used the lid anyway. It's about 1/4" larger in diameter than the kettle so I turned it upside down and formed a 1/8" lip all around; it now fits snugly ON TOP OF the SJ kettle. Then I cut holes in the pot and lid and riveted them together like the guy in Texas. The rim of the pot is slightly too large for the Weber lid; it works as is but I may bend the rim in slightly (about 1/16") so the lid fits correctly.

Mini WSM Project

I bought this to do the Mini-Smoker mod on my Weber Smokey Joe and it works great for that. If you only need to grill/smoke on one level the Weber cooking grate is supported by the rivets that attach the handles of the pot. No need to drill holes. The included steaming rack can function as the heat diffusor too.All you really need to do is drill a hole in the side for the thermometer and cut a hole in the bottom for the heat to flow through.

Ideal for the Weber Smokey Joe mod.

Works pretty well with Weber Smokey Joe to make the Mini WSM. The top lip needs to be pinched in ever so slightly for the Weber lid to fit. I pinched the lid ever so slightly using a cloth and vice grips. It has a few minor dents, which was disappointing. All in all the project turned out well though.

I like the lightweight aluminum but it seems a little thin and susceptible to denting. The pot arrived with some dents in the bottom and that is why i can only give it 4 stars instead of 5.

The very first time I made tamales in this an the bottom melted out ...couldnt even take a medium setting on a standard stove !!  GREAT BIG POS

Very poor quality - used it one time over medium heat on an electric stove and the entire bottom of the pot warped and buckled. Returned to store immediately.

When I opened the box the pan had three dents in it and the lid was bent in two different places. There are plier marks were somebody bent one of them back, at least tried to. This pan was sent damaged. There were no marks on the boxes and it is plain to see where somebody tried to straighten it up.

Pot was dented in 3 places.
