The top part of the handle has to be attached by 2 small screws. It's really easy.

Yes, you have to attach the handle, but it is very easy to do. There are only 2 screws. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and it takes less than 5 minutes to attach it!

Only thing you have to assemle is to push the top of the handle on to the rest of the vacuum. Basically, it is completely assembled.

The self propelled feature is excellent for use in large carpeted areas. I recommend turning it off for bare floors unless you want to jog behind it. This is the first SP model I've owned and I won't be without it in the future.

I bought the Anniversary model which allows you to switch the self-propel feature on or off. I only vacuum with the self-propel turned on; it makes a big difference! It's awesome!

I prefer the self-propelled. Much easier to use.

Awesome will never go back to a regular push sweeper this makes cleaning less of a chore and Powerdrive is just right

Yes, the self-propelled is worth the extra money. I have had 7 back surgeries and would not be able to vacuum if I did not have the self-propelled model. It's also great if you have a large house.

The self-propelled feature works well and decreases the effort required when vacuuming carpet. If you will vacuum primarily hard wood floors, stick with the anniversary addition.

yes get it. just got the self-propelled at first didn't realize I had to turn that feature on and found vacuum difficult, hard to push/pull and heavy. wow I love this feature it makes it so much easier to maneuver the vacuum.

See my original rating, this vacuum is a dream, it is guided rather than pushed or pulled. We've had a number of Hoovers before that were good, but this one takes the cake. It is definately worth the difference in price.

Yes. It does have the option to turn the self-propell off. Not sure why you'd want to do that... but you could.

To use the attachments you just take the flexible hose from where it attaches to the base of the vacuum. This immediately stops the self-propel feature. Connect any attachments you want to use to the flexible hose, use them, and when you are done, place the flexible hose back into the base of the vacuum and the self propel feature will re-engage. It's great and very easy to use.

You will love the self prope feature, I would not buy a vacuum without it. When using the hand tools, the self propell stops itself...no need to worry,

Yes you can turn off the self-propel feature very easily - just slide a tab on the handle. Hoever you don't even have to do that when you use the accessories. They just attach to the hose when the vacuum is upright and when it's upright it doesn't propel.

You can turn the self-propel feature on and off (slide switch on the handle). It does not come into play when using attachments, so can be on or off.

I believe so. When I use the attachments, the bottom part of the vacuum turns off. I can use the attachments without having any competing suction from the base and don't have to worry about the vacuum moving or picking up something I wasn't looking at.

The feature can be switched off. But while using attachments, the vacuum is in an upright position and the brush roller automatically turns off as does the self-propel.
