There are too many factors that go into how old a product found on the shelf of your local store may be. We recommend referring to the best by/expiration date on the package. If there is not an expiration date on the product, we suggest returning it to your store for a refund/exchange.

I got mine in April 2013 and the "best by" date is September 2013. It is not refrigerated when you buy it but package says "refrigerate after opening." However if you do an internet search on "how long does [that other famous name cheese] last?" some replies will say because it's not considered real cheese it never needs refrigeration and will last forever So at the very least you should be able to count on 6 months or so.

The packaging is same as Velveeta, airtight, vacuumed sealed. Regardless of the &#39;best buy&#39; date given, you can open and enjoy this product up to five years if the storage tempature is reasonable. Don&#39;t let freeze, and avoid high temps, ie: 80% +.
Most best by dates are more for stock rotation than they are for product viability.
I&#39;m about to buy 50 units of this product and they will sit on a shelf until needed. Wether that&#39;s in one year or 5 years.
A can of Tuna Fish will still be as good in 5-8 years from the day you bought it as long as the integrity of the can is not compromised. So...go ahead buy a few and put them away.

The recipe is this, listed as follows:

Easy Melt Mac and Cheese

2 Cups Great Value Penne Rigate-Uncooked
16 oz. Great Value Easy Melt Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product-diced
1/3 cup Great Value Vitamin D Milk

Directions:
1. Cook Penne according to the package.
2. Drain pasta and return to the pot, add Easy Melt and milk.
3. Stir pasta on low heat until cheese has melted.
4. Serve with fresh steamed vegetables on the side.

2 cups uncooked macaroni
16 oz cheese, cubed
1/2 c milk

cook macaroni; add cheese and milk, cook over med-low head until cheese is melted

2 cups uncooked penne pasta, 1/2 this brick (16 oz), 1/3 cup milk. Cook pasta then drain, then return to pot and then add cheese and milk at low heat until cheese melted.

The above is the recipe, but frankly you could instead just melt the cheese (plus milk) in the microwave using the bowl you'd eat from, so cleanup is easier. Add the pasta to the bowl last. That's what I'd do, instead.

Yes, it's safe to use. There was a recent news article about how we Americans throw away too much food because we think "Expiration Date", "Use By Date", and "Sell By Date" all mean the food is bad after those dates. This cheese doesn't even need to be refrigerated until AFTER it is opened! Unless it's been subjected to extreme heat, it will be perfectly good to use. BTW, it freezes well, too, although it tends to crumble after frozen but is fine then to be used in casseroles, mac & cheese, and other types of dishes where form is not important.

We do not recommend consuming products that have passed their expiration date, as we cannot guarantee the quality and freshness of these products once they have exceeded their shelf life.

I absolutely LOVE this Great Value Melting cheese and I usually have 2 loaves on hand in my pantry.   Since my first taste, I've never gone back to the name brand we all grew up with.  Why pay more for something when this is (to me) virtually identical? 

This cheese melts perfectly, tastes cheezy, and it's creamy and american style cheddary!  Add a little milk to some chunks in a pan, heat on low,  and voila….instant Nacho sauce which is also great to dip french frys in.   I use it for mac and cheese, broccoli cheddar soup, cooked vegetable topping, grilled cheese, etc.  Very versatile, economical, and shelf stable is a plus. No refrigeration till it's opened.

Great cheese!  This is my “GO TO"

I plan on doing some cooking with this but I mainly was looking for something I could substitute for cooking as much as possible at a reasonable price.

It was SO good I only used half the serving ..just a tiny bit on GV unsalted crackers...

VERY HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT ...IT WILL CUT MY COOKING AND CLEANING UP TOIL SIGNIFICANTLY..
It was HARD to stop eating it...but it is SO tasty it is VERY satisfying...and I feel like I had a decent sized lunch.

Excellent Product

Melt 'n dip is so soft and smooth, spreads on crackers, melts smoother and faster than Velveeta.  
My family loves this processed cheese.  I bought it because I was trying to save money on every item I purchased that day...I will continue to purchase this Great Value brand item, I honestly like it better.

Better than Velveeta

I did not think it would be possible to beat Velveeta; the venerable ingredient that I have eaten for 50 years. But the folks at Walmart and Great Value have pulled it off. The packaging is terrible and would likely scare most people away from trying the product which is too bad because they should.

Wow!

I have made cheese dip for over 40 years, using the Velveeta brand of cheese, some milk, and a can of Rotel diced tomatoes. Recently, I have had to pinch pennies, and to save gas money (15 miles to nearest store), I tried the Site to Home with free shipping over $50.00. Along with other groceries I purchased the Great Value Melt n' Dip, and the Great Value diced tomatoes. All of my ordered items were delivered by Fed Ex in two days, and everything was perfect. I made my cheese dip as usual, and I have to tell you, the texture, and consistency of the cheese was exactly the same as the Velveeta brand, and my family thoroughly enjoyed chips and dip while watching Sunday football.

We're always making cheese dip and this tastes really good. It melts great and is rich and creamy, we just add a can of Great Value diced tomatoes with green chiles to it. We also use it to make mac and cheese. It's so versatile, you can use it to make so many different dishes and it's very affordable

I was in the middle of cooking %26 when I opened the block of cheese I seen a line that did not look as though the cheese was separating. I cut the piece %26 what do you know??? A string of hair!!! My first time purchasing and I will not be purchasing again!!

Don't Buy

I consider myself the Queen of Great Value. But this is one great value item that you need to skip! Lol. Awful would be a compliment. It taste horrid. I ruined an entire Rotel using this cheese. And ground chuck ain't cheap Jack! I'm so upset. Don't waste money like I did. Pay the extra few dollars for the name brand.
